Carroll County WestminsterAccident claims life of woman, 46 A 46-year-old Carroll County woman was killed yesterday when she drove her sport utility vehicle into the rear of a tractor trailer that had stopped on the shoulder of Route 140, according to state police at the Westminster barracks. Brenda D. Chinea of the 3300 block of Sykesville Road was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:39 a.m. accident on the shoulder of eastbound Route 140 near the state police barracks, police said.

On September 11, 2005, JOHN S. DEMPSTER, JR., 83, died suddenly. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Hickman Dempster and two daughters, Nancy S. Frank (husband Richard S.) and Deborah E. Burke. Also by a brother William D. Dempster (wife Nancy O.) of Mill Valley, California and grandson, R. Stephen Frank of Pennsylvania. Mr. Dempster's body has been donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board. He requested that no funeral or memorial service be held. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

On August 2, 2004, MSG MARION LEE HICKMAN, longtime resident of Odenton, passed away at North Arundel Hospital after a lengthy illness. MSG Hickman was born February 2, 1928, in Chase, MD. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving from 1949 to 1964 as a Paratrooper Ranger (3rd Company) and Cavalryman in Korea, Viet Nam, Germany, Japan, Alaska and other locations. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Lafon Hickman, his son Mack, his mother and father, sisters Kathleen and Dolly and brothers Robert and Happy.

Senior pitcher Kristie Hurman threw a one-hitter yesterday to lead the No. 1 Chesapeake-AA softball team over No. 3 Severna Park, 1-0, at Severna Park. The win put Chesapeake at 13-2 for the season and 10-1 in the county, while the Falcons fell to 13-2 overall and 9-2 in the county. Protecting a 1-0 lead that came in the first inning on shortstop Tracey Dahlen's run-scoring single, the Cougars kept the Falcons off the bases with strong work in the field. Center fielder Emily Bolling made a diving catch to get the first out in the fourth.
