The Rev. Leon Klemens Warczynski, a former longtime pastor of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Graceland Park who enjoyed collecting clocks, died Sunday of Parkinson's disease at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium. He was 91. Father Warczynski, the son of a streetcar motorman, was born in Baltimore and raised in Fells Point, where his mother owned a bar at Fleet and Ann streets. "His mother wanted him to become a priest, and when she found out that he wanted to become a Franciscan, she told him no, he had to become a diocesan priest," said his niece, Leona Andryszak, who lives in Baltimore's Beverly Hills neighborhood.

As many as 240 AmeriCorps members will relocate to East Baltimore's Graceland Park neighborhood in the coming months, as the domestic version of the Peace Corps establishes an urban campus, the first of its kind. The classrooms at the former Sacred Heart of Mary School will be transformed into dormitories that will house the National Civilian Community Corps, an AmeriCorps unit that deploys teams of 18- to 24-year-olds to work with community groups and individuals in schools and parks as well as disaster areas.

Monsignor Richard E. Parks, pastor of Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Graceland Park for 25 years who was also a city Fire Department chaplain, died of cancer Feb. 19 at Stella Maris Hospice. He was 80. Monsignor Parks was remembered by friends for his caring personality and the lasting friendships he established wherever he went. "He never thought of himself," said the Rev. George Gannon, current pastor of Sacred Heart of Mary. "He was generous with his time and had an ability to ascertain just what people needed.

Lois Gresdo has long enjoyed hearing the little voices and the peals of laughter just outside her front door. But her street will be a quieter place when Sacred Heart of Mary School shuts its doors after 87 years of providing a Catholic education. "The school is a very positive presence for these children - and for this neighborhood," Gresdo said Wednesday after word of the school's demise reached this middle-class neighborhood in far East Baltimore, a stone's throw from Dundalk.

Daniel S. Sullivan Jr., who practiced law in Towson for 70 years, died Aug. 30 of natural causes at the Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Center in Houston. He was 96. Mr. Sullivan was born and raised in Baltimore and graduated in 1931 from City College. He earned a bachelor's degree from Catholic University of America and his law degree from the University of Maryland in 1936. Mr. Sullivan, who maintained a general law practice in the Carrollton Building on East Joppa Road in Towson, practiced from 1936 until retiring in 2006.

For 92 years they've called it Flower Mart, now Flowermart, but they might just as well call it Food Fest because everybody in Mount Vernon was eating Friday. Including the plants. As the Social Security Chorus sang old show tunes and 1970s television theme songs (Think Laverne and Shirley) on a stage nearby, the food booths' lines grew steadily longer for Italian sausage, quesadillas, gyros and crab cakes. And just across the street, Michael and Pam Szesze's carnivorous plants were snacking on the insects tossed their way by the brisk noontime breeze.
