CLEVELAND -- With roughly a week left before Tuesday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, the Orioles are continuing to search for improvements. And it is becoming increasingly clear that adding a corner infield bat with the ability to get on base at a high clip is a major priority - perhaps neck-and-neck with acquiring a starting pitcher. After 29 years coaching field hockey and teaching physical education at Roland Park Country School, Debbie Bloodsworth is saying goodbye. "I won't be returning to Roland Park," Bloodsworth said. "It's time for me to make a change. I've been coaching for a long time. I may move from the area. In fact, I'm thinking seriously about that. My mother is 80 and lives in Princes Anne, in Summerset County, about three hours from here. I'm thinking about moving there and reconnecting with some of my family.

JOSEPH LANSING HEADLEY, JR., of Federalsburg departed this life at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE on Tuesday, April 20, 2004. He was 18 years old. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 17, 1986 the son of Joseph Lansing Headley, Sr. and Barbara Fitzpatrick Headley and brother of Christopher M. Headley and Amanda E. Headley all of Federalsburg. He was a junior at Colonel Richardson High School and was a member of the Class of 2005. He was a student in the carpentry program at the Caroline Career and Technology Center.

Bruce Headley has trained horses for 42 years. He has never run one in Maryland. That will change tomorrow when Headley, a 67-year-old horseman from California, saddles Kona Gold for the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash at Laurel Park. Headley not only seldom races outside California, but he also never overtaxes Kona Gold, star of his stable and champion sprinter of 2000. So why has Headley done something so out of character and entered Kona Gold in the De Francis Dash? "He's feeling so good," Headley said of his 7-year-old sprinter.

Police are looking for a 36-year-old South Carolina man who traveled to Maryland last week and is accused of threatening to kill his former girlfriend, who lives in Anne Arundel County. Harry Paul Headley is wanted for violating a protective order against the woman and is considered "extremely dangerous," said Officer Charles Ravenell, a spokesman for Anne Arundel County police. County police issued a warrant for Headley's arrest Wednesday, after he was accused of calling his former girlfriend and threatening to kill her and her family.

As hundreds of vacationers basked nearby on a crowded Ocean City beach, a Morgan State University student from Lanham apparently drowned over the weekend after he was swept away by a rip current that came without warning, authorities said yesterday. Lij-Paul Headley, 19, was in the water off the beach between 31st and 32nd streets when he, his brother and cousin became caught in the rapidly moving current about 2:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the Ocean City Beach Patrol. The beach was attended by lifeguards, and the three young men were in relatively shallow water, less than 75 yards from the shore, said the beach patrol captain, Butch Arbin.

We established loyalties during the childhood Saturdays spent at the neighborhood and downtown movie houses. My own allegiances went to the Waverly, Boulevard, Parkway and Aurora, all still standing, but all out of the motion picture business. Daniel Malkin, 33, cellist, UMBC teacherDaniel Malkin, a cellist who taught at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, died Thursday of cancer at Howard County General Hospital. He was 33.A Columbia resident, he was a founder of Music in Common, a chamber music group that played there.He was also a member of Trio Americas, an ensemble at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he taught cello.Mr. Malkin was born in Berkeley, Calif. He had degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
