Relatives and friends may visit at the family owned Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne, on Wednesday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Lansdowne United Methodist Church on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor Jean's life at the family owned Evans Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services-Parkville, 8800 Harford Road on Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Lady Hazel S. Whittle, a registered nurse who had worked at the National Institutes of Health and was the widow of Sir Frank Whittle, who is considered one of the fathers of jet propulsion, died Monday from complications of Parkinson disease at her Columbia home. She was 91. Hazel Steenberg was born and raised in West St. Paul, Minn., and received her nursing diploma in 1937 from the Kahler School of Nursing, which is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. After working as a private-duty and hospital nurse, she attended the Patricia Stevens School of Modeling in Chicago.

Hazel V. Sparks, a Harford County dairy farmer and real estate developer, died Wednesday of complications from a stroke at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was 89. Along with her husband, Mrs. Sparks ran their family dairy farm for more than 35 years. She also worked as a real estate broker and developed 100 acres of the family's land to build the High Point Estates subdivision in Forest Hill. Mrs. Sparks was born Hazel V. Waddell in Ceres, a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia.

On May 29, 2007, in Ellsworth, ME, WILLIAM LESTER BIRELY died at age 92. He was a longtime resident of Cumberland, MD, where he had a distinguished career with the B&O and the C&O railroads. Beloved son of the late Samuel and Annie Birely, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel Birely and was the devoted father of William Birely and wife Becky, Richard Birely and wife Joyce, and Janet Sue Kelly and husband Steve. He was blessed with grandchildren, Carrie Ann Olish and Cristinea Kelley, and great grandchildren Susanna Kelley, Margaret and Lilian Heflin and Cade Olish.
