Legg Mason Inc. is looking to sublease 78,000 square feet on three floors at its headquarters in Harbor East. The Baltimore-based investment management firm is consolidating its space, partly due to the recently announced merger of Legg Mason Capital Management into a larger Legg affiliate, ClearBridge Investments in New York, said spokeswoman Mary Athridge. Legg leases 372,000 square feet in the building. Since 2009, Legg has subleased 82,000 square feet of that to Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and McGladrey, a tax consultant, Athridge said.

Harbor East's Lancaster Street has seen some welcome additions recently. Ouzo Bay's seafood program has impressed many Baltimore diners. Townhouse Kitchen and Bar has settled in as an upscale sports bar with a notable selection of beer. Both of these new restaurants have filled voids in the flashy neighborhood. So what does latest newcomer Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant add? It was a question I kept circling back to during a recent happy-hour trip, with no clear answer. The atmosphere was amiable, our servers were attentive and the beer selection was adequate.

When considering where to watch a Ravens playoff game, Harbor East doesn't come immediately to mind - or really at all. It's a place for fancy dinners and shopping sprees, not for cheap beer and bar food. Townhouse Kitchen and Bar is an exception, even if the industrial-chic bar doesn't look it. With its modern artwork, open space and touch-screen taps at select tables, it's a bar that certainly feels as if it belongs in Harbor East. But on Saturday, it will likely be a sea of purple, and many of those fans will be enjoying reasonably priced food and drinks, thanks to Townhouse's surprisingly good gameday offers.

Energy giant Exelon Corp.'s regional headquarters in Harbor Point would rise 23 stories and 350 feet, reshaping Baltimore's skyline with a futuristic glass tower, under a preliminary design approved Thursday by a city advisory panel. Approval of the "schematic" phase of building design moves the project closer to its planned spring construction start, developer Michael S. Beatty said. Beatty, president of the newly formed Harbor Point Development Group LLC, was asked to return to the Urban Design and Architectural Review Panel with revisions for final approval.

These days, one of the hardest reservations to make in Baltimore is a table at Ouzo Bay, the eye-catching Greek restaurant that opened in Harbor East in September. Boosted by reviews from critics and devoted Yelpers, Ouzo Bay has quickly become a new favorite among Baltimore foodies. Talk to people who've dined at Ouzo Bay and they'll quickly list their favorite aspects - the South Beach-like decor, the attractive outdoor patio, the attentive servers, the wild-caught fish. Even the intricate work of pastry chef Akis Anagnostou rightfully earns raves.

Newcomer Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant adds some balance to Harbor East, which has been dominated by high-end establishments. This is the third big opening, following Townhouse Kitchen and Bar and Ouzo Bay, on this stretch of Lancaster Street, where the border between Fells Point and Harbor East gets a little fuzzy. Gordon Biersch is an attractive option for visitors, families, office workers and just plain folks. It is arguably the most recognizable brand on the block.
