Dannell Ellerbe thought about the question for a moment and then respectfully requested a minute to think about an appropriate answer. The truth was that it had been a long time since the Ravens' inside linebacker had last felt 100 percent, but he smiled when he finally recalled the day. "Oh, [it was] St. Louis last year," Ellerbe said following the Ravens' practice at Stevenson University. Ellerbe, 26, hurt his hamstring in the Ravens' Week 3 blowout of the Rams last season.

The Ravens just wrapped up another padded training camp practice at the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills, and head coach John Harbaugh had nothing new to report on offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie, who has not been cleared to practice, and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, who has a hamstring injury. However, Harbaugh confirmed what has already been reported: tight end Dennis Pitta broke his right hand. “We'll be shooting for the first regular season game,” Harbaugh said.

The Ravens were hoping Bryant McKinnie would show up for the start of training camp slimmed down and in better shape. Instead, the troubled left tackle didn't show up at all and it's unclear when or if he will. Given little choice, the Ravens placed McKinnie on the reserve/did not report list after he didn't show up for Thursday's first full-squad practice of training camp. His absence cast his future with the Ravens very much in doubt and added even more questions for an offensive line that is in flux as camp opens.

Don Zimmerman figured it would take Scott Hopmann some time before he began to re-discover his footing in UMBC's offense. The coach's patience has been rewarded as the junior midfielder has recorded 11 points in his last three contests after posting five points in his first five games since returning from a hamstring injury. The Annapolis native and St. Mary's graduate amassed three goals and one assist in the Retrivers' 11-8 victory over America East foe Vermont Saturday.

The hamstring that sidelined Scott Hopmann is no longer an issue as the UMBC junior midfielder has registered an assist in each of his last two contests. But the Annapolis native and St. Mary's graduate has taken four shots with zero goals, and coach Don Zimmerman said Hopmann is working off the rust. “Scott's looking pretty good,” Zimmerman said Monday. “I don't think he's fully back to where he needs to be. I think his hamstring is fine, but because he missed so much time, he's not in the kind of shape that he needs to be in. But it's good to see him out there, and he's contributing in practice.
