Antonio Langham's season could be summed up by the misfortune he suffered during yesterday's 24-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.Langham, the Ravens' left cornerback, spent the first half of the season mired in a slump in which he surrendered a touchdown pass in all but one of the first eight games. Determined to turn his season around, Langham started anew yesterday, and early on, he showed that he meant business against Cincinnati's star receiver, Carl Pickens. On the Bengals' second possession, they had moved into Ravens territory at the 42, when Langham broke up a deep sideline pass to Pickens on first down.

Still bothered by a strained muscle in his chest, Doug Drabek has been scratched from tonight's start against the New York Mets and replaced by left-hander Doug Johns. But for now, Drabek apparently has avoided becoming the fourth member of the rotation to go on the disabled list.Johns, who has bounced between the rotation and bullpen, will make his eighth start. He also Drabek filled in for Drabek on Thursday night against Toronto, allowing four earned runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 13-6 loss.

Will Clark knew it was serious the moment it happened. His foot hit third base on his way to the plate in the third inning of Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Angels, and though Clark was able to score, he went into the dugout fearing the worst. Yesterday, it became a reality. Clark was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring, removing the American League's leader in on-base percentage and fifth-leading hitter from the Orioles' lineup. Infielder Ryan Minor was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take his place.

Mark Clayton tweaked his left hamstring again, but the injury likely won't prevent the Ravens' wide receiver from playing against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium. Coach Brian Billick said yesterday during his weekly news conference at the team's practice facility in Owings Mills that Clayton's hamstring - the same hamstring that had bothered him on three occasions since the Ravens drafted him in the first round in 2005 - flared up again during the second half of Sunday's 35-22 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The hole in the middle of the Orioles' lineup threatened to expand yesterday as first baseman and cleanup hitter David Segui was scratched from an exhibition game because of a recurring right hamstring pull that may prevent his return to the lineup for at least a week. Segui reinjured himself during Monday night's exhibition against the Florida Marlins. After accepting a first-inning walk, he felt a pull in the hamstring while running the bases. Segui later jogged out a double-play grounder and was lifted after three innings.

Orioles first baseman Kevin Millar received treatment yesterday for a strained right hamstring and badly bruised left shin. He was packed in ice but insistent that he didn't need to leave the lineup. Millar injured the hamstring about 10 days ago and said he has been running with a "choppier" motion to compensate for it. Adding to his pain, he has a sizable bruise on his lower left leg after fouling off a pitch from Andy Pettitte during Wednesday's game. Manager Dave Trembley indicated that he might rest Millar once in the coming days, a decision that would surely be met unfavorably.

Concerned that a new injury could have an effect on the old one, the Orioles placed B.J. Surhoff on the disabled list yesterday as the corresponding roster move to recalling pitcher Eric DuBose from Triple-A Ottawa. Surhoff was checked by the training staff and received the first treatment on his pulled right hamstring early in the morning, and the Orioles waited until shortly before the first pitch to make their decision. Surhoff was convinced he would miss only "a handful of games" if allowed to remain active, but that was too much for team officials.

JUPITER, Fla. - First baseman David Segui probably won't return to the Orioles' exhibition lineup for a few more days, but manager Mike Hargrove remains confident that he will be ready to start the regular season on time. Segui has been hobbled by a sore hamstring, which has limited him to just 16 at-bats during the exhibition season. The inflammation has subsided enough to allow him to resume batting practice and some running drills. He could return to the lineup for a road game against the Florida Marlins tomorrow.

CLEVELAND -- It will take more than a bad hamstring and falling temperatures for Florida's Bobby Bonilla to be his club's designated hitter in the World Series.Bonilla appeared to be bothered by the strained hamstring several times in Game 2 on Sunday, grabbing at the back of his leg during at-bats and running cautiously. But Marlins manager Jim Leyland said the former Oriole wouldn't DH tonight in Game 3."It's important to have your best team out there," Leyland said, "and Bobby Bonilla is part of our best team.
