On March 29, 2007, MELVIN R. COWAN beloved fiance' of Thelma Sue Hamrick, devoted father of Connie Bane and Ricky Cowan, stepfather of Jeffrey and Paul Hamrick and Michelle Lloyd, loving son of the late Erma and Melvin Cowan, dear brother of Ethel Parker, Dolores Havice and the late Leslie E. Cowan. Also survived by ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Wednesday, 1 P.M. Visiting hours Monday and Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2003 REVEREND KENNETH CARL HAMRICK, died after a 10 month battle with cancer. Rev. Hamrick was born on May 12, 1938 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Carl Hamilton Hamrick and Marjorie Marie Huffman Hamrick. Rev. Hamrick completed all of his education in Washington, DC where he was raised. He was a 1956 graduated of Western High School, a 1960 of The American Unversity and 1964 graduated of Wesley Pheological Seminary. Rev. Hamrick was ordained an elder in the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church where he served as a minister for 32 years.

Kenneth C. Hamrick, a former Methodist minister who restored a 150-year-old chapel near Thurmont, died of cancer Wednesday at his home in Smithsburg. He was 65. Born and educated in Washington, Mr. Hamrick graduated from American University in 1960 and Wesley Theological Seminary four years later. He served in the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for 32 years, 27 of them at Thurmont United Methodist. He left the ministry in 1995. At the time of his death, he was working as a sales representative for a lighting company.

LEAH GAY BYORICK, 86, formerly of Middle River, ended her earthly journey on Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ken Christians, of Fredericksburg, VA. One of thirteen children, she was born July 31, 1916, in Swandale, WV. She was a homemaker and preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Clem B. Byorick, in 1996. She was a member of Middle River Baptist Church for 45 years. Besides her daughter, she is survived by a granddaughter Donna Michelle Stevens and her husband Thomas of Wilmington, DE; A grandson Scott Alan Weinberger and his wife Kelly of Morrisville, NC; one great-grandson, Greyden Thomas Stevens; three sisters, Velma (Vee)
