The Maryland Department of the Environment will hold an informational meeting today on a water discharge permit application by Walsh Fuel and Supply Co. of Hampstead.The meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. in the Hampstead town hall, 1034 S. Carroll Street.Walsh is applying for a permit to discharge storm-water runoff from its truck-loading area and from a diked area surrounding some fuel tanks.Robert Beasley, a public health engineer for the Department of the Environment, will be present to answer questions.

A Hanover, Pa., man was being held in lieu of $2,500 bond after being charged Sunday in the theft of a 1979 Jeep in Hampstead.Town police said a state trooper stopped a Jeep in Baltimore County that fit the description of one reported stolen about 9 a.m. from the 1300 block of N. Main St.The driver, Christopher C. Calp, 24, was turned over to town officers and arrested on auto theft and drug charges.Pub Date: 9/30/97

The Hampstead Board of Zoning Appeals affirmed the town Planning and Zoning Commission's approval of the Oakmont Green Retail Center, Hampstead Town Attorney Richard C. Murray said Thursday.At a Tuesday meeting, the board "said Ordinance 230 was valid," Mr. Murray said.Ordinance 230 is the rewrite of the town's zoning code. The council adopted the ordinance in January.Before Ordinance 230 was adopted, the town's Board of Zoning Appeals had said construction of the Oakmont Green Retail Center could not proceed because its storm water management pond did not meet the existing code's requirements.

Hampstead water supply to be subject of meetingProtecting future water supplies for the town of Hampstead will be the subject of a meeting between Carroll County officials and Hampstead town representatives tonight at 7 p.m. at the Hampstead Town Hall.Carroll County has completed a study that mapped potential sites for wells that could be developed to provide municipal water supplies through 2020, said Thomas Devilbiss, a hydrogeologist with the county's Bureau of Water Resource Management.
