FOR 200 YEARS, St. John's United Methodist Church has served Hampstead in the landmark sanctuary at Gill and Main streets. One of the many celebrations to mark the church's bicentennial will take place Sunday. In a style reminiscent of an old-fashioned camp meeting, tents will be set up in the park behind Hampstead War Memorial. Worship starts at 10 a.m. and a potluck picnic luncheon will follow. The Rev. Kimberly Brown-Whale will lead the service. Camp meetings of the past, according to congregation member Edna Murray, would usually consist of about three days of family camping and revival services.
