Rebecca Chona says she was getting her three small children ready to play Tuesday and watching "Good Day Baltimore" when her husband called during a break at work to talk. As they spoke, she was distracted by a report about a Halethorpe man who allegedly fled from police and stole a police cruiser before being shot and killed by officers. Rebecca and Sundeep "Sunny" Chona wouldn't learn for another four hours that that man was Sunny Chona's 26-year-old brother, Munpreet, known to his friends and family as "Monty.

Among the 68 calls the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department received for medical and fire-rescue service Jan. 8-15 were the following: Gateway Terrace, 4700 block, 8:33 p.m. Jan. 13. Crews from the Arbutus volunteer station and Halethorpe career station responded to the report of a carbon monoxide alarm in Arbutus. A low level of carbon monoxide was discovered, and the scene was secured for BG&E. Frederick Road, 6300 block, 3:27 p.m. Jan. 13. Crews responded to the report of an person with health problems in Catonsville and transported one critically ill person to a local hospital.

Among the 75 calls the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department received for medical and fire-rescue service Dec. 18-25, were the following: Baltimore National Pike at North Rolling Road, 5:18 p.m. Dec. 23. Crews from the Arbutus volunteer station and Catonsville and Westview career stations responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident with rescue in Westview. One critically injured person was rescued and flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Interstate 695 between exits 12 and 13 , 10:08 p.m. Dec. 22. Crews from the Arbutus and Woodlawn volunteer stations responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident on the Baltimore Beltway in Catonsville and found property damage, but no injuries.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, North Point Lodge 4, thanks the crew of Baltimore County Firehouse 5 and their community for their continuous support in collecting donations for our Marine Mail Project. Over the last four years, the Halethorpe community has enabled the IOOF to send out approximately 3,000 care boxes to frontline soldiers in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Firehouse 5 has single-handedly allowed us to mail our soldiers approximate 200 care boxes every quarter.

Among the 76 calls for medical and fire-rescue service the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department received Oct. 16-23 were the following: Patapsco State Park, 12:30 p.m. Oct. 20. Crews responded to the report of a injured person in the Avalon Area of the state park. One seriously injured person was rescued from a trail and taken to a local hospital. Westland Boulevard, 4700 block, 10:56 p.m. Oct. 19. Crews from the Arbutus volunteer station and Halethorpe career station responded to the report of a building fire in Arbutus and found a small stove top fire that had self-extinguished.

Lois L. Hughes, a retired department store sales associate and longtime Randallstown resident, died Monday of cancer at Dove House Hospice in Westminster. She was 84. Lois Louise Rutter was born in Halifax, Pa., and graduated in 1945 from a high school in Presque Isle, Maine, where her stepfather was stationed as a United Airlines mechanic. In 1946, she married Richard Kenneth Hughes and moved with her husband to Coronado Road in Halethorpe after he took a job as a maintenance worker for Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp.

Norma Thompson spent much of Monday dusting, polishing and sprucing up items that will fill a soon-to-open home improvement store in Halethorpe. The hours she volunteers with Habitat for Humanity's newest ReStore will help this Baltimore grandmother, who works as a housekeeper at a downtown hotel, earn a home of her own. Each prospective homeowner must provide Habitat volunteer hours, and Thompson is doing just that at the nonprofit organization's third...

An article in the Aug. 12, 1911 edition of The Argus reported on damage from a severe storm. Lightning struck the home of Mr. Emil Fisher, Smithwood avenue, last Friday night, causing damage of several hundred dollars. The bolt struck the roof near the chimney and entered the house, ripping the plaster off several rooms. No one was injured. The home of Mr. Fisher was struck by lightning about six weeks ago in the same place. *****' Rabbits and partridges are said to be more plentiful than for a number of years.
