The Towson men's team was in serious danger of losing its season opener after blowing a sizable lead on its home field yesterday. But the Tigers averted disaster by once again finding a hole in Loyola's soft defense. Junior midfielder Oliver Bacon got loose on the right wing and delivered a 15-yard pass to senior attackman Phil Grillo, who scored from the top of the crease with 1:02 left to lift Towson to an 11-10 victory before 1,477 at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Grillo and Bacon, who led the Tigers with three goals each, saved the day for Towson and spoiled the head coaching debut of Loyola's Charley Toomey after its 10-6 fourth-quarter lead went up in smoke.

Navy goalie R.J. Wickham had played a superb game, but the one player he couldn't shut down in regulation Saturday victimized him again in sudden-death overtime. Loyola senior attackman Cooper MacDonnell scored with nine seconds remaining in the five-minute overtime to lift No. 13 Loyola to an 8-7 upset of No. 6 Navy. The game-winner by MacDonnell was his sixth goal of the game, and ended several comeback attempts by a stubborn Navy team (1-1) that refused to quit at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
