Balamurali Ambati's genius is taking him places few teen-agers can go.The 17-year-old whiz kid is about to graduate from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and, while assisting a surgical team, has already watched his first patient die of gunshot wounds in an emergency room.And this fall the former Baltimorean will begin his medical residency at Harvard Medical School.Bala was 10 years old when he decided he wanted to become the youngest practicing physician in the United States. A year later he graduated from City College high school in Baltimore and was speeding toward his goal.

Baltimore City homicide detectives are investigating the beating death of a man found Tuesday afternoon inside a home in North Baltimore's Oakenshawe neighborhood. Police said an acquaintance of the 50-year-old victim, whom detectives are not yet identifying, went to the victim's home, a rear basement apartment in the 300 block of Birkwood Place, after the man did not arrive at work. "He didn't show up for work, and he always shows up for work," said Det. Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman.

Baltimore City Police say a man died Sunday morning of multiple gunshot wounds, and they're seeking the public's help to gather more information. Police said they were called to the 1800 block of Ruxton Avenue at about 11:19 a.m., and found an adult male who had been shot multiple times in his upper body. The victim, who was not identified, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died. Homicide detectives are investigating. Anyone with information may call 410-396-2100.

Two young men were shot early Saturday in the Washington Village/Pigtown neighborhood of Southwest Baltimore, police said. About 12:40 a.m. police responded to the 1200 block of Glyndon Ave. following the report of a shooting, according to a police statement Saturday. Officers found two juveniles at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds, the statement said. Both were outside when they were shot, police said. One of the boys was shot in the leg and suffered a "graze wound to the face," police said.

Baltimore police on Monday morning were investigating a pair of shootings from Sunday evening. A 22-year-old man walked into St. Agnes Hospital shortly after 10 p.m. with a gunshot wound in the leg, police spokesman Sgt. Anthony Smith said. He had been shot a short time earlier in the 2800 block of Annapolis Road in the Westport neighborhood of South Baltimore. The wound was considered minor, Smith said. A 54-year-old man walked into Sinai Hospital at about 5:45 p.m. with a gunshot wound in the torso, Smith said.

An unidentified man was found with several gunshot wounds to the upper body in the 2800 block of Harford Road on Friday night, Baltimore Police said. The man was transported to the hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Detectives are searching for an old model black Nissan Acura with a burned out taillight that was seen leaving the scene.

Baltimore City police are investigating an early morning shooting Thursday in Bolton Hill that left two people with minor injuries. Investigators have not released identities of the victims and stress the investigation is in the preliminary stages. A woman, about to enter a residence in the 300 block McMechen Street at 4:30 a.m., was approached by a van. As she spoke to a man in the van, another vehicle pulled up and fired at them. She was struck in the thumb and he was struck in the arm. She jumped into the van and was dropped off at an area hospital for treatment.

Baltimore police found a 29-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds in West Baltimore Saturday. Police did not release the victim's name or condition. He was found just after 5:15 p.m. in the 2700 block of Riggs Avenue, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said. Baltimore police pulled over a 22-year-old man for driving the wrong way on a street early Saturday when the victim opened up the door and fell out of vehicle, telling police he had been shot. Lanell Ausby was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police spokesman Sgt. Anthony Smith said. He was one of two homicide victims in the city overnight. Ausby was shot multiple times in the torso around 1:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Edgecombe Circle in Parklane, Smith said.

Baltimore County Police say a man was found dead this morning at a gas station in Rosedale after suffering at least one gunshot wound. At 4:28 a.m., police and emergency medical personnel got a call for “unknown trouble” and responded to the Shell Gas Station in the 6300 block of 6321 Kenwood Ave in Rosedale.  There, officers found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The male had been found in front of the gas station, police said, and was declared dead at the scene.

Baltimore police are investigating the shooting death of a man in East Baltimore early Thursday. Responding to a shooting in the 600 block of Cokesbury Ave. in the East Baltimore Midway neighborhood at 12:39 a.m., police said they found a man with gunshot wounds. Paramedics took him to an area hospital but he was pronounced dead Thursday morning, police said. Police have no suspects or motives and did not release the victim's identity. The murder was Baltimore's 71 s t homicide this year, following the shooting death of Dominic Hicks, 19, whose identity police released on Thursday.

Baltimore City Police say they believe road rage may have been the reason behind a fatal shooting overnight in the city. Police said that at about 2:55 a.m., they responded to the 2800 block of Erdman Avenue for a report of a shooting, and found an adult black male with multiple gun shot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced at 3:17 a.m. Police did not release the victim's identity, and also had no immediate information on a suspect. However, they said they believe the incident may have been the result of road rage.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the back of the head inside a home in the Gwynn Oak area of Northwest Baltimore early on Wednesday morning, according to Baltimore Police. The teen, who has not been identified, was listed in critical condition at an area hospital on Wednesday, said Detective Angela Carter Watson, a police spokeswoman. Officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 4000 block of Eldorado Avenue, on the border between the city's Howard Park and Dorchester neighborhoods, just after midnight and located the injured teen inside a home.

Police on Tuesday worked to find out more about the backgrounds of the two men wounded and one man killed in an overnight shootout with officers in West Baltimore. The incident took place about 10 p.m. Monday after two officers on foot patrol in the 2700 block of Edmondson Ave. saw gunfire coming out of a bronze sedan, police said. The officers fired on the car, police said. All three men shot were in the vehicle, police said. Police did not know the dead man's identity Tuesday and were running his fingerprints through databases.

Amid a stepped up enforcement for St. Patrick's Day-related festivities that was hailed as successful, Baltimore Police were dealing with a spate of violence over the weekend elsewhere in the city. Three people were killed Sunday in apparently unrelated incidents, and police were also investigating a double-shooting that injured two early Saturday morning in East Baltimore.  And Monday started off with homicide detectives dispatched to the Remington neighborhood of North Baltimore for a serious shooting around 10 a.m. Few details were immediately available, but police said the shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Fox St. -Detectives have made an arrest in the first killing that occurred Sunday, at the city's Code Blue homeless shelter.
