Paul Reed Smith Guitars, the Eastern Shore manufacturer that has made guitars for Carlos Santana and other high-profile musicians, will have two of its models featured in the newest version of the popular Guitar Hero video game. The models will be among several guitars that gamers can choose to "play." Guitar Hero Smash Hits, the latest version of the game, will be released Tuesday. The PRS guitars to be featured are the Custom 24, which is the company's top-selling guitar, and the SC 245, a vintage-style electric guitar.

Controls GUITAR HERO -- One of the game's biggest assets is its wireless Gibson controller. Although the version I played on the PlayStation 3 lost its connection from time to time (usually on long pauses), the aggravation was worth it to be able to rock out with reckless abandon and embarrass myself accordingly. ROCK BAND --One of the main quibbles with the overall outstanding Rock Band is the number of cords on the Xbox 360 version (the Playstation 3 has wireless guitars). The multiplayer feature (playing as a band)

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins $49.99 for Nintendo Wii. Rated Mature *** (3 STARS) Unlike the one-man army Ryu Hayabusa of the Ninja Gaiden games, the silent killers of Tenchu: Shadow Assassins must avoid detection to carry out their missions. It's more a puzzle game than an action game, with each level a conundrum of guards and hidden routes to solve. The ninjas of Shadow Assassins skulk through the game's missions and strike from concealment. Various tools, such as bamboo tubes, allow them to make conditions more favorable by knocking unaware enemies into wells or extinguishing candles and lanterns.

The recording industry may be struggling, but with a number of popular rock-concert-inspired games dominating Christmas wish lists this year, it seems there's no shortage of wannabe pop stars. While guitar and singing simulators of varying quality can be found everywhere, from Wal-Mart to RadioShack, two titles for the major video game systems, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Rock Band, are considered the best of the bunch. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Red Octane) Available on Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. Rated T for teen audiences.

New network outpulls its old rival CW For the past three weeks, the upstart My Network TV has accomplished something that would have been considered unthinkable just two years ago. The network, quickly cobbled together by a group of Fox-owned local stations after the 2006 merger of the WB and UPN into the new CW left abandoned stations with nothing to put on the air, has averaged more prime-time viewers than the CW. My Network TV is the only one of...

Some bars deserve a second chance. The first time I went to the Sly Fox Pub's new home on Fort Avenue, the place was dead. And this was 10 p.m. on a Friday. There were only a dozen people hanging out downstairs in the bar, and the second floor was closed. The scene wasn't much different last Friday. About 12:45 a.m., the crowd was about 20 strong. Though the upstairs wasn't chained off like last time, the bartender stopped us from going upstairs. The upstairs is closed, she yelled at us. So, we reluctantly ordered a round of drinks downstairs and occupied some seats at the bar. I love going to brand-new or recently renovated bars, because the tap lines are always clean.

Do NASCAR collectibles qualify as legal tender? Or, in this case, illegal tender? A Pennsylvania man jailed on a charge of selling painkillers allegedly wanted a witness against him rubbed out. After finding his "hit man," however, he was planning to pay him off in bobbleheads. Allen Bridges of Everett was asking around the Bedford County Jail, searching for someone to kill for him, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. "I want him fed to the pigs," said Bridges, apparently a Hannibal Lecter fan. But Bridges seems to have blabbed too much, and another inmate tipped law enforcement officials, who then set up a state policeman to pretend he was interested in murder for hire.

Adrian Belew has never been a typical guitar hero. Where other six-string superstars owe their reputations to slash-and-burn virtuosity, Belew built his on sound alone -- a collection of electronically altered shrieks and moans that fell somewhere between Hendrixian splendor and feeding time at the zoo.Needless to say, he was instantly adored by rock's intelligentsia. First Frank Zappa snatched him from the club circuit, then David Bowie snapped him up. His slippery, screaming leads lent drama to Talking Heads' "Remain in Light," while his sly, snaky rhythm work helped the Tom Tom Club crack the Top 40 (with "Genius of Love")
