A 33-year-old man was shot and killed by a Southwestern District police officer yesterday after threatening the officer with a replica of a semiautomatic handgun, according to police.The shooting occurred in a drug-infested section of Baltimore within a half-dozen blocks of where two children -- one 3 and the other 6 -- were killed recently during separate street shootings.Theodore Bushrod Jr., whose arrest record included numerous narcotics charges, died at the scene from three gunshot wounds in the chest, said Agent Arlene K. Jenkins, a police spokeswoman.

Aberdeen Students and staff at George D. Lisby Elementary School at Hillsdale were evacuated from the school Monday afternoon after a dishwasher overheated. The dishwasher in the kitchen of the Aberdeen school sustained fire damage, but it was contained to the machine, according to Teri Kranefeld, manager of communications for Harford County Public Schools. The students and staff were able to get out of the building safely and then returned once fire officials determined it was safe.

A drug dealer who was wearing a shoulder holster under his bathrobe was fatally shot in a West Baltimore alley last night after he pointed a handgun at pursuing police officers, city police said.Nathaniel M. Newkirk Jr., 28, was shot four times in the chest and abdomen about 7:30 p.m. by Officer Robert L. Smith, an undercover officer in the Southwestern District's drug enforcement unit, police said.City police spokesman Dennis Hill said police pursued Newkirk after five plainclothes narcotics officers saw him selling heroin to man at Winchester and Poplar Grove streets moments earlier.

Aberdeen Sheriff's deputies and state police report: Antoine D. Rushing, 20, of the first block of New County Road, was charged Thursday with trespassing and failing to obey a lawful police order. Warren E. Smith, 54, of the 100 block of Bouzarth Lane, was charged Sunday with possessing a drug other than marijuana and another drug-related charge. Kimberly Lynn Pugh, 42, of the 3300 block of Churchville Road, was charged with failing to appear in court for a case in which she was charged with possessing marijuana.

Randolph B. Godfrey, age 79, of Salisbury, died Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. M-BM- He was born on January 9, 1927 in Snow Hill, a son of the late Lawrence and Kate Beauchamp Godfrey. M-BM- Randolph proudly served his country in the US Army from April 1945 to May 1947. He is survived by his loving friend and companion, Joyce Givans of Salisbury; a step-daughter, Carol Lea Hurd of Baltimore; three step-grandchildren, Eddie Hurd, Jr.Tina Snyder and Theresa Newberger.

It happened this way.Around 2 a.m. on Friday, July 19, some girls came to Charlene Vandiver's door and said her son, Antonio Crossley, had been shot in the 700 block of Poplar Grove St."I jumped up and was on my way up there, but something said, 'Char, don't go up there.' God kept me back," Vandiver said Friday as she sat in a chair in the living room of her home in the 600 block of N.Dukeland St. A friend told her only a few minutes later that her oldest child, Tony, 18, was already dead.

Welch arrives at the office, a noisy procession of cars rolls around the corner, past the graffiti-covered grocery store and the "Slick Rick's Bail Bonds" sign, straight through the red light.She hesitates for a moment on the curb."A wedding?" she asks her son."No," William Welch Jr. says reluctantly. "A funeral."Instantly, the Baltimore councilwoman remembers. It's the funeral for Damon Jefferson, the 22-year-old son of a neighbor. Just a few nights earlier, he was gunned down while walking home, right behind her office building on Edmondson Avenue.

Aberdeen Forshaye Deshawn, 21, of the 100 block of Holloway Road, was charged Monday with being a fugitive from Virginia. Shona L. Murray, 42, of the 4900 block of Villa Point Drive, was charged Monday with failing to appear in court for a case in which she was charged with second-degree assault, violating a protective order and theft less than $100. Aberdeen police report: A theft was reported Tuesday in the 200 block of Angus Drive. Multiple shots were fired Tuesday in the 900 block of Edmund Street.
