Grout used to protect steel support cables in the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, which carries Interstate 95 over the Potomac River, may be contaminated with an excessive level of chloride, a corroding substance known to accelerate rusting. The Federal Highway Administration warned 21 states — including Maryland — that as many as three dozen bridges were built with possibly defective grout manufactured in Ohio between November 2002 and March 2010. Chloride-contaminated grout was blamed in the collapse of a pedestrian walkway at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. in 2000, injuring more than 100 fans.

Grouting tile is a job I need to tackle before my home is ready for guests. What type of grout should I use for my ceramic floor tile? Is mixing grout difficult? How much should be mixed at one time? Can you share some tips? Although grouting tile isn't exactly like laying heavy concrete blocks, I can think of easier jobs to do. If you protect your knees, back and the skin on your hands, you should survive the job with few aches and pains. Grout used for ceramic tile is available in many different forms, but the two most common are wall grout and sanded floor grout.

One of the great things about living in Carroll County is being close to historic sites. The most interesting to me are the Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg and Antietam.Gettysburg is not too far over the Pennsylvania line, which makes easy access for people in search of an informative day trip. It's nice to know that if the jaunt to Pennsylvania is a little too long for some people, there's an alternative right here in Carroll County. This weekend, the annual Civil War Encampment will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Carroll County Farm Museum in Westminster.
