Every Wednesday, I'll serve up five stats you should know heading into that week's Ravens game. This week's stats, pertaining to Sunday's game against Carolina, will likely get lost in the shuffle, and by shuffle I mean incessant discussion of Steve Smith. 14 --  Panthers tight end Greg Olson averages 14 yards per reception (16 catches for 224 yards with a pair of touchdowns) through three games, and he could give the Ravens pass defense big problems. Before he dislocated his elbow, Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eiffert found space underneath, and Steelers tight end Heath Miller exploited the inside zone a few times as well in Week 2. Olson is the most reliable pass catcher remaining in Carolina, and a healthy Olson could victimize the Ravens in the middle of the defense.

Cease-fire day on the National League West battlefield.Time to shelve the numbers, keep the bats packed. The scoreboards were silent yesterday, the TVs dark. Time to check the scars on all the faces of the Dodgers and Braves, as they inhale one last time.Baseball has not seen such a pennant race in 13 years. Not since the Yankees and Red Sox carried it one game beyond the limit, and Mike Torrez threw a ball and Bucky Dent hit it, and both men were redefined forever. The Dodgers and Braves have been just as unrelenting.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins manager Tom Kelly probably didn't mean anything by it, but he inadvertently insulted Atlanta Braves left-hander Steve Avery during yesterday's World Series news conference. He insinuated that Avery is a thrower rather than a pitcher, which didn't go over very well with tonight's Game 6 starting pitcher."I really think he wings it," Kelly said. "When you throw 89-91, you can just let it go. I think [Greg] Olson just sits in the middle of the plate and reacts to where the ball goes.
