Educators' Sunday Woods Presbyterian Church will honor and bless educators during the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sunday, Aug. 26, at 611 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park. Principals, teachers and other educators are invited, and Kevin Maxwell, superintendent of Anne Arundel County public schools, is scheduled to attend both services. A reception will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Information: 410-647-2550. Bible study Greater Crofton Reformed Orthodox Presbyterian Church holds a weekly study class focusing on 2 Corinthians at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Cross Roads School House, 1358 Millersville Road, Millersville.

Anne Arundel County's largest elementary school houses 116 pupils more than it was built to hold and exceeds what the county projected for this school year by a full classroom. The Greater Crofton Council - which spearheaded a campaign for a new Crofton library - now wants a new school to relieve the crowding at Crofton Elementary."[The school is] crying for help," said Torrey Jacobsen, vice president of the council, whose daughter will start at Crofton Elementary in the fall. The county's long-term budget contains nothing for a new elementary school in Crofton.

The Chesapeake Treasures, a local chapter of the Smocking Arts Guild of America, meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, from September through June. THE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN of Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church will hold a Fall Craft Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 18 at the church on Route 175. Tables can be rented for $10.Donations of handmade items and baked goods are needed. Information: (410) 674-2272.The United Methodist Men will sell grilled barbecue chicken dinners from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dinners include half a chicken, baked beans and cole slaw for $5. Suddenly, the kids are in school, the local pools are closed and we wonder what we have to look forward to now.L Crofton has some old and some new events to look forward to.The first will be the town's 30th anniversary homecoming party ++ and dance at 7 p.m. Sept. 24, at the Crofton Country Club. Longtime Crofton residents are asked to contact former residents they know and invite them to the celebration.During the evening, awards will be presented to the Crofton Civic Association's citizen of the year, Crofton Athletic Council's cardinal of the year, Crofton Kiwanis Club's police officer of the year and the Greater Crofton Chamber Of Commerce's businessperson of the year.

The Farmers' Almanac says one more winter storm to go.So far this year, the folksy publication has been pretty accurate, but for the sake of our sanity, I hope it's dead wrong this one last time.After all, spring is only 13 days away. And the kids really need to get out and prepare for spring sports with lacrosse due to start any day now.*The Greater Crofton Council will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight at the Crofton library.The group will discuss area school issues, the State Highway Administration's studies of Routes 3, 301 and 424, plus an update on local planning.
