With No. 1 Maryland leading the charge into this weekend's NCAA Division I women's tournament, here's a look at some of the numbers that stand out from the Terrapins' spectacular tournament history. The Terps are tops in these categories: championships (10), consecutive championships (seven), title-game appearances (17), years invited (26), games played (59) and games won (43). In addition, 10 years after she graduated, Jen Adams , now Loyola's coach, still holds records for most points in a game (10)

— A day that began in celebratory fashion for No. 6 Maryland Saturday quickly turned into a game of survival. The host Terrapins took the field on Senior Day against No. 14 Colgate without their top two scorers, then stammered their way through the first half, falling behind by four goals. Despite a late rally, the newly minted Atlantic Coast Conference champions couldn't complete the comeback, allowing goals in the final 2:12 to Ben McCabe and Peter Baum in a 10-8 loss that suddenly puts what looked to be a sure NCAA tournament home game next week in doubt.

Wherever he goes, Maryland senior attackman Ryan Young is reminded of his mother. Maria Young died on April 17 after a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. A quick trip to a local convenience store in College Park recalled the bottles of water and sports drinks that Maria Young devoured during her stay at a hospital near the family's home in Manhassett, N.Y. An encounter with a cardinal while leaving a class brought back the memory of a framed drawing of the bird above Maria Young's hospital bed. But rather than depress him, Ryan Young said those prompts have revived the cherished moments he spent with his mother before her death.

MEN Grant Catalino, Maryland Senior, Webster, N.Y., attackman Catalino sparked the No. 6 Terps (10-3) to two wins and the school's first Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship since 2005. He scored the game-winning goal to help Maryland, the tournament's No. 3 seed, edge then-No. 7 North Carolina, 7-6, in the semifinal round Friday. And then he scored three goals in the team's 11-9 victory over then-No. 6 Duke, the top seed, in the title game.

Grant Catalino broke out of what some might consider a mini-slump at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament last weekend, but the Maryland senior attackman said he never thought of it as a slump. "Not at all," he said. "The way our team is playing right now, anybody can have a big game. We're not a one player-dominated team. I don't necessarily have to score four goals in a game or have five points for our team to win. Players like [junior midfielder] Joe Cummings and [senior attackman]

Two things happened when Maryland scored twice in one minute early in the fourth quarter of the Terps' ACC men's lacrosse semifinal against North Carolina on Friday night. The first was Tar Heels coach Joe Breschi calling a timeout to halt Maryland's momentum. North Carolina had dominated most of the game, but the Terps' two quick strikes had cut the Tar Heels' lead to two. The second was Maryland's bench noticeably springing to life. For the first time in the game, the third-seeded Terps had to reason to believe they might actually beat second-seeded North Carolina.

The payback tour of 2011 rolls on for the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team. After avenging last year's losses to Virginia and North Carolina, the No. 3 Blue Jays made amends for a 10-9 loss to Maryland last season by edging the No. 7 Terps, 12-11, in overtime before a rain-drenched 8,072 at Byrd Stadium in College Park Saturday night. Three seconds after a one-minute slashing penalty against Terps senior defenseman Ryder Bohlander had ended, Johns Hopkins senior attackman Kyle Wharton faked a shot from the right wing, stepped to his left, and put his shot over redshirt freshman goalkeeper Niko Amato for the game-winner with 16 seconds left in the extra session.

There would be no close finish this time. In a series defined by bone-jarring hits and tight contests, the Maryland men's lacrosse team found its rhythm early and often en route to an almost routine 10-4 dismantling of Navy before an announced 6,993 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis on Friday night. Eight of the previous meetings in the 82-year history of this series had been by one goal, but the No. 6 Terps made sure there would be no such dramatic ending this time.

The UMBC men's lacrosse team's search for a season-turning win chugs along for at least another week. No. 8 Maryland scored the first four goals en route to a commanding 15-6 victory over the visiting Retrievers before 2,836 at Byrd Stadium on Friday night. UMBC has lost four straight contests after opening the season with a 16-10 win against Presbyterian on Feb. 19. The team has been outscored, 66-25, in those setbacks. Despite the Retrievers' lethargic start, the Terps (5-1)

The Maryland men's lacrosse team needed a spark in a big way, and 6-foot-5 Grant Catalino fit the bill nicely. The senior attackman scored four of his game-high five goals in the second half to propel the No. 3 Terps (2-0) to a convincing 20-8 thumping of No. 14 Georgetown before 3,966 at Byrd Stadium Saturday afternoon. The number of goals surrendered and the margin of defeat were the highest for the Hoyas (1-1) since a 20-8 setback to Virginia in an NCAA tournament quarterfinal in 2006.
