Glenelg coach Chuck Struhar believes a team must keep Atholton shortstop Chrissy Gavin off the bases if it is to have any chance of beating the Raiders. And he has the statistics to prove it.After going 0-for-3 in an early-season loss to the Gladiators, Gavin went 5-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored to lead the visiting and sixth-ranked Raiders to a 13-3 rout of No. 5 Glenelg yesterday. The victory moved Atholton (14-2, 9-2) into a second-place tie with Glenelg (1-3, 9-2) in Howard County and avenged last month's 9-1 loss.

Logan Dubbe underwent Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow in October of 2010. The Glenelg junior returned to the outfield last season, but it wasn't until this spring that he was able to get back on the mound for the No. 3 Gladiators. Dubbe hasn't shown much rust, winning his first three decisions without allowing an earned run before suffering a 2-0 loss to No. 10 Reservoir on Monday. The right-hander's ERA has climbed slightly, to 0.26, but he isn't complaining. His recovery from the elbow injury that used to almost guarantee the end of a pitching career has been remarkable.

No. 3 Glenelg sent a tremor though the Baltimore area field hockey scene Monday night when the Gladiators handed No. 1 ranked Severna Park its first loss of the season, 2-1, in the District V championship game. The District V game pits the Howard County champion against its Anne Arundel County counterpart. The basic game statistics showed that Severna Park (13-1-1) held a 15-4 advantage in offensive penalty corners over Glenelg (14-1), but Glenelg's defense made it difficult for the Falcons to capitalize on their chances.
