Glenwood Lions offers scholarships to GlenelgGlenwood Lions Club has announced that it has two $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors at Glenelg High School.The criteria will be based on scholastic achievements and community services.Interested seniors should request an application from the guidance office at Glenelg High School.

A country-western dance to help pay Michael Doyle's medical bills, will take place from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. tomorrow at Glenelg High School.Mr. Doyle, a 26-year-old accountant who has cystic fibrosis, is in Chapel Hill, N.C., awaiting a double lung transplant.His mother, Mary Ellen Doyle, who teaches math at Glenelg High School, has joined him in North Carolina.The dance is open to the public. Tickets are $5; organizers ask that tickets be purchased in advance.Information: 531-3956 or 744-2098.

RUSSELL PAYNE, 17, of Ellicott City.School: a senior at Glenelg High School.Honored for: He is co-chairman of Howard County's Black Student Achievement Program and president of the Black Awareness Club at Glenelg High School. He is a member of the Student Government Association, and a member of the U.S. Region I Soccer Team, which includes 15 mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. Russell, a goalkeeper, has been playing soccer since he was 5 years old.Goals: He wants to become a physical therapist and is interested in a number of schools, including the University of Connecticut, Georgetown University, the University of South Carolina and North Carolina State University.

Jazz -- Jazz legend Maynard Ferguson (above) will be live in concert at Glenelg High School at 7:30 Tuesday. Opening for Ferguson will be the award-winning Glenelg Jazz Ensemble. Jessica Cooper , of Woodbine, is the recipient of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador award, given by the Student Services Department at Glenelg High School. She is being recognized for her leadership skills. Cooper will attend a three-day leadership conference in the spring with other Ambassadors from the state.

Howard County police and school officials are investigating a post-graduation trip by Glenelg High School students that ended in three arrests, including one of a student, on charges of drunken driving and possession of marijuana. The boat trip out of Annapolis was sponsored by the Glenelg boosters' club and ended about 3 a.m. yesterday, when police stopped two cars near the high school, officials said. The drivers and a passenger were picking up graduates who went on the trip, said Patti Caplan, a Howard County public schools spokeswoman.
