Gilman defensive tackle Henry Poggi is one of only 24 high school players nationwide to be named Thursday to USA Today's All-USA Football Team . Poggi, one of The Baltimore Sun's Co-Defensive Players of the Year, was the most schemed against player his father Biff Poggi had ever coached in the elder Poggi's 16 seasons as Greyhounds coach. Henry Poggi drew at least double-team coverage in every game as the No. 1 Greyhounds went 9-2 and won their second straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship.

Hutchins, a Baltimore native and Gilman grad who has played on the Tar Heels' first- and second-team midfield units the past two years, has been troubled by back problems since his arrival at North Carolina.  In consultation with doctors, he elected to undergo surgery in January and will miss the spring semester during his recovery.  He will return to school in the summer, and it is anticipated he will make a full recovery and be ready to compete with the Tar Heels in 2014 and 2015.

Micah Kiser Gilman, linebacker, senior Henry Poggi Gilman, lineman, senior Opponents found it exceptionally difficult to run on the Greyhounds with Kiser and Poggi clogging up the middle. Coaches needed at least a double team to contain the 6-foot-4, 258-pound Poggi at tackle, and it was tough to counter 6-2, 227-pound middle linebacker Kiser with one player. Here are a few notes on another slow week in Terps recruiting: ** ESPN HoopGurlz this week conducted a Q&A with Maryland women's point guard signee Lexie Brown . If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player's, whose would it be? Kristi Toliver of the Los Angeles Sparks. Kristi is a point guard that sometimes has a scorer's mentality. Her 3-ball is deadly. I think I shoot well, but my reputation is not even close to hers … yet. She also attended the University of Maryland, where she won a national championship, and I hope to follow her footsteps when I get on Maryland's campus.

A year after Gilman escaped with a 34-32 double-overtime win over Calvert Hall in the inaugural Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship game, the Greyhounds put a much more emphatic stamp on their 11th title since 1995. No. 1 Gilman's size and strength at the point of attack wore down the No. 2 Cardinals as the Greyhounds pounded out a 35-7 victory at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Both teams started slowly, playing to a scoreless stalemate in the opening quarter.
