The No. 7 Dons had their crack against Hereford on Tuesday and made the most of the opportunity, getting contributions across the board to come away with an 8-4 road win over the No. 5 Bulls. Senior attackman Devin McNamara led the offense with one goals and three assists, while sophomore goalie Acie Newton made timely saves - nine in all - as the Dons improved their record to 5-2. Friday's editions included a Q&A with North Carolina senior attackman Marcus Holman, a Baltimore native and Gilman graduate. Due to space constraints, here are some more answers that didn't make the cut: Who is the best teammate you've played with? I would have to say that [senior midfielder] Davey Emala is a great teammate. He's a guy that just likes to take care of business. He comes to work every day. I would also have to say that [sophomore attackman] Joey Sankey - in the two years that I've played with him - is another guy that you can always count on to make the right play and you can always count on him going 100 percent.

Matt Tilley hasn't had much free time outside of practice this year. In fact, Gilman baseball coach Larry Sheets said the senior has taken just two days off since August -- both between the football and basketball seasons and none between the basketball and baseball seasons. Such is the life of a three-sport athlete. And he hasn't just participated in football, basketball and baseball -- he has excelled in all three. He played wide receiver and free safety for the Gilman football team that won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference last fall, served as captain for the basketball team that was one win away from winning its second consecutive MIAA B Conference title in the winter and stars all over the field for the No. 10 Greyhounds in baseball.

No. 3 Denver is hoping to have freshman Gordie Koerber (Gilman) back for Saturday's game against No. 8 Notre Dame in the Whitman's Sampler Mile High Classic, but senior faceoff specialist Chase Carraro will remain inactive. In Koerber remains out, coach Bill Tierney is confident in Colin Scott and Eric Adamson as fill-ins. Carraro has an injury, and the medical staff does not want to force his return. The faceoff specialist from Louisville, Ky., was a second-team All-American last year and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Specialist of the Year.

It was also their first home loss since a 16-12 setback to Stevenson on April 16, 2011. Gilman coach Zach Collins said his team "got hammered" when Boys' Latin beat the Greyhounds, 9-4, about two weeks ago. This time, the outcome was much different in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference championship Friday as Gilman posted a 6-2 victory over the Lakers at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton. The Greyhounds' intensity made the difference. "It was by far the hardest they have worked all year," Collins said. "They were willing to do all the small things that don't always show up on the score sheet.
