David Duchovny wore a dress in "Twin Peaks," flirted with Garry Shandling on "The Larry Sanders Show" and re-created the voice of "The X-Files'" Fox Mulder on "The Simpsons." But he faces his biggest challenge in the new movie "Evolution": He wants to make us laugh -- out loud. "Everyone always says that broad comedy is really the toughest thing to do," he says in a recent telephone conversation. "After 'Evolution,' I definitely believe it." Duchovny may file "The X-Files" in a been-there, done-that basket.

Fans waiting impatiently for the ever-in-gestation "Ghostbusters 3" can take solace in something that may be even better. "Ghostbusters" Night at the Windup Space (8 p.m. Thursday, 12 W. North Ave., no cover), will, yes, involve screenings of both films. But it will also include "Ghostbusters"-related stand-up comedy and a performance from what could probably be the best band ever - the Proton Pack, playing all songs from the "Ghostbusters" films. Kristina Green, 25, who will host with Johnny Marra, said the event came out of an online conversation with people who had attended previous theme nights at Windup Space.

At 46, actor Ernie Hudson has been around for a while. He appeared in both the ''Ghostbusters'' movies, but they didn't do his career much good. Now Hudson is appearing in the new film ''The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,'' which opens here Friday. Rebecca de Mornay plays a deranged young woman who becomes a nanny for a family she intends to destroy.Standing in her way is Solomon, a handyman, played by Hudson, who knows what the nanny is up to long before the people who have hired her wise up.The man Hudson plays is slightly retarded.

A circle with a diagonal line through it has become something of a universal symbol for being against whatever the circle is around and the line runs through. This had become a standard visual notation by the time the movie "Ghostbusters" hit theaters three decades ago. Strangely enough, the symbol that has denoted Harford County Public Schools since before that era unintentionally is a circle with a line through it over, of all things, an open book. Viewed from the perspective of a post-"Ghostbusters" generation, it does make a jarring first impression.

Halloween goes to the movies this weekend. At the Charles, David Lynch's cult classic "Eraserhead" plays at 11: 15 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday. This black-and-white flick starring the late Jack Nance is a headache-inducing collage of industrial wastelands and disgusting images. I love it.At Bengie's Drive-In Theatre, families can enjoy horror films rated G or PG: Roger Corman's "Masque of the Red Death" (1964), "Dracula Has Risen From the Grave" (1968) and "Dracula A.D. 1972," all preceded by George Pal's collection of animated shorts, "The Puppetoon Movie."

Jury selection continues tonight on "Murder One." The only question is, do you want to watch anything else, or restrict yourself to just one hour of quality TV?* "Kiss and Tell" (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- Cheryl Ladd stars in this movie about a woman whose husband may be trying to kill her. What genius came up with this original idea? Sorry, but Ms. Ladd's career has been pretty much downhill since "Charlie's Angels." ABC.* "The Nanny" (8 p.m.-8:30 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Roger Clinton makes an appearance in this episode, which is largely clips from previous shows.

A witty friend once commented that Strindberg was Ibsen on speed. I thought of that when watching -- rather, trying to watch -- Peter Jackson's "The Frighteners," with Michael J. Fox. "The Frighteners" is "Ghostbusters" on speed.A major headache in search of a large and bottomless bottle of Tylenol, "The Frighteners" takes "Ghostbusters' " subject of ghostly apparitions played for grisly laughs, and blows it through a cyclotron enlarger, transfers it to video and hits the fast-forward button.

Towson men’s basketball coach Pat Skerry completed his coaching staff a few weeks ago, but I just now discovered that one of his young assistants has a very famous father. Luke Murray, who was on Sean Miller’s staff in Arizona in 2009-10 and coached at Wagner College last season, is the son of actor Bill Murray. I’ve reached out to Luke Murray in the hopes he’ll chat about his father -- who starred in comedies such as “Caddyshack,” “Groundhog Day,” “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” and “Ghostbusters” -- but he talked about his relationship with his father and his early love of basketball with Yahoo!
