While there is still some uncertainty over whether the Morgan State football team will start junior Seth Higgins or junior Robert Council at quarterback, there is no confusion over who will line up under center for the Bears' opponent Saturday. Howard (2-5 overall, 1-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) is led by junior Greg McGhee, who has emerged as one of the league's top quarterbacks. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound McGhee is tied for first in the conference in passing touchdowns (10)

Hours after Julian Bond was elected national board chairman of the NAACP on Saturday night, he reappointed to his executive committee a lawyer jailed for stealing from a client's estate - a move that has incensed some board members.Bond named James E. Ghee, 52, of Farmville, Va., to the leadership role in the venerable civil rights organization just after telling the news media that one of his top priorities was to "restore integrity and civility" to the Baltimore-based organization. Ghee had actively worked for Bond's candidacy and was perceived as his informal "campaign manager," several board members said.

SMILES AND good wishes accompanied the election Saturday of Julian Bond as NAACP board chairman. But by making one of his first acts the reinstatement of a tainted executive committee member, Mr. Bond may have set back an organization still trying to restore public confidence. Many were surprised when Mr. Bond nonchalantly included James E. Ghee on his list of executive committee members. Mr. Ghee, a Farmville, Va., lawyer, was one of four board members with ethics problems asked to resign last year by the departing board chairwoman, Myrlie Evers-Williams.

Dunbar wrestler Dennis Perry was about to take on his toughest league opponent of the year, Victor Ghee, the city champion from Northern. But unlike some wrestlers, whose eccentricity might include slapping sides of their heads or doing neck-bridges before a big match, Perry sat calmly on Dunbar's bench. When his time to wrestle came, the slender senior stripped off his warm-up top, revealing a spindly 6-foot, 140-pound frame and what coach Michael Hendrick calls an "oversized wrestling uniform and knee pads that hang around his legs."

Tagine: Spicy Stews From Morocco By Ghillie Basan Braises and Stews: Everyday Slow-Cooked Recipes By Tori Ritchie Chronicle Books / 2007 / $22.95 Funny that the host of CBS' Five-Minute Cooking School pens a book about cooking over the long haul. In her Braises and Stews book, the San Francisco-based food writer surveys a broad culinary landscape, from the French White Coq au Vin to Portuguese Clam- and-Sausage Stew to Thai Fish-and-Corn Curry. One tempting dish includes Tori Ritchie's recipe for Sicilian Swordfish Stew, and it hardly required a long stint over a hot stove.
