PORTLAND, Maine -- Portland Pirates owner Tom Ebright may have taken his American Hockey League team out of Baltimore, but that doesn't mean the AHL -- or Ebright -- has forgotten Baltimore.AHL president Dave Andrews wants his 16-team league to expand, and Ebright is chairman of the AHL's expansion committee."We don't have one meeting without Baltimore coming up," said Ebright. "Our feeling is, with the right ownership and environment, it could re-emerge. Maybe the mere fact that I left and a new owner comes in would invigorate the business community."

A deal will be consummated tomorrow that will see ownership of the Baltimore Bandits pass from Bob Teck and Alan Gertner to a consortium of regional and local investors, sources have indicated.Teck and Gertner, facing a worsening financial situation almost from the Bandits' American Hockey League debut, were told to work a deal or the league would step in and do it for them.Among the bills the New Jersey businessmen were months behind on, according to sources, are a down payment on the league franchise fee, and a sum believed to be in the vicinity of $500,000 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for providing the players for the team.
