Parking issues are holding up plans for a New York-style pizzeria with live music in Hampden. Kelly Beckham, 44, of Butchers Hill, said he wants to open Paulie Gee's Hampden this summer on the first floor of the former Hampden Republican Club building at 3535 Chestnut Ave. The 125-seat, 6,000-square-foot eatery would have outdoor seating and would specialize in non-traditional pizzas like braised fennel and fresh mozzerella with anisette cream drizzle....

For the McDonogh boys lacrosse team, Friday's game at Loyola was starting to resemble its loss against Boys' Latin earlier in the week. Once again, the No. 5 Eagles played a fine first half only to see the opposition take the lead in the second half. But this time, McDonogh made sure it had the final say. With a strong collective effort on defense and momentum-changing goals late, the Eagles came away with an 8-6 win over the No. 4 Dons in Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference play.

Last year at this time, we told you to look out for some of the restaurants that would be opening in 2012. Most of them, like Fleet Street Kitchen and Heavy Seas Alehouse, actually did. A few projects we told you to look forward to didn't see the light of day. Here's what we're reasonably sure about for the first few months of 2013: First up, My Thai , originally located in Mount Vernon's Park Plaza building, will reopen in a new location in...

This just in. Serious Eats and other New York food websites are reporting that the popular Brooklyn, N.Y. pizza shop Paulie Gee's will open a Baltimore location next spring in the old Hampden Republican Club building. According to Adam Kuban's story on Serious Eats, Paulie Gee's Hampden will be a collaboration between Paulie Gee owner and the Baltimore-based author of the Pizzablogger website. The blogger, who prefers to remain anonymous, operated a pizza stand at the Baltimore Farmers' Market this year.

John Howell was at the Naval Academy for several months before he ever heard Gee Gee Greene utter more than a few words. In the weight room at Ricketts Hall, on the practice fields and even when the football team was eating its meals, Greene said little to his fellow freshman or anyone else. "I remember when we came over for Plebe Summer [before freshman year], we sat down to get food. Gee Gee would just sit there and keep to himself, or he would just sit with Tra'ves [Bush]," Howell, now a senior, said of Greene.

McDonogh sophomore attackman Trey McGee had a difficult chore just getting on the lacrosse field this season, as he battled mononucleosis during the preseason. Despite still feeling a bit under the weather, he's certainly making the most of his time on the field. The biggest proof came in the Eagles' 7-6 overtime upset of then-No. 1 Calvert Hall on Friday, when McGee scored three goals, including the tying tally to force the extra time. In his second season on varsity, McGee has received more playing time and contributed 13 goals and four assists in the young Eagles' 5-4 start.

If you could care less about this year's Grammys (wouldn't blame you there) or the Allen Stone show at the 8x10 isn't your thing, there's the Umphrey's McGee show at Rams Head Live on Sunday night. I've made the mistake of calling Umphrey's a "jam band" - a label for bands I say I'm allergic to because I never got into Phish. But I have persistent friends (the same friends that drop whatever they're doing whenever Umphrey's McGee is in the area) that told me they weren't Phish-lite.
