John Breckenridge Warfield, a retired naval officer whose career spanned World War II to Vietnam, died Friday of cancer at the home of a sister in Herndon, Va. He was 74 and lived in Middletown.Commander Warfield was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1938. He enlisted in the Navy in 1939 and retired in 1969. From 1970 until 1984, he was an ammunition consultant to the Naval Ordnance Systems Command.After retiring from the Navy, he operated a 27-acre farm in Middletown, raising beef cattle and keeping bees.
