A recap of the Orioles' 6-5 loss to the Angels yesterday: TRACHSEL TROUNCED AGAIN Steve Trachsel's second stint in the Orioles' rotation could be on borrowed time. The veteran right-hander had another awful outing, his third in his past four appearances. Presented a 2-0 lead, Trachsel allowed two home runs and four runs in the first inning. The big blow was Torii Hunter's three-run drive to left field. The Orioles crept to within 4-3, but then Trachsel surrendered a two-run homer to Robb Quinlan in the third.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- With a runner on first base and the count full in the second inning of yesterday's intrasquad game, Orioles catcher Guillermo Quiroz requested a timeout and walked to the mound, where young pitcher Garrett Olson needed a little counseling. Quiroz reminded Olson about a conversation they had in the dugout earlier in the day, and Olson proceeded to retire the next two batters to complete his scoreless outing. Quiroz noticed Olson was dragging his left arm again "because the front elbow was coming out too fast," he said.

I wanted to pass along reliever Jim Hoey's thoughts on a minor league manager and pitching coach: "The manager at Delmarva, Gary Kendall, is amazing at how he's a motivational speaker and a coach. ... And you get to Double-A and Scott McGregor is an awesome pitching coach. More of a laid-back type who lets you do your thing." Mo Hill, a coach at Double-A, said the affiliates are giving the same instruction at each level that's found at the major league level. "It all starts in spring training, the fundamental part of it, making sure we're all on the same page with the major leagues, just in case there's a player to be moved up."

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Radhames Liz should have seen it coming. Not the ball that slammed into his left leg in the first inning, but the likelihood that his third major league start would turn gruesome. It's not easy being an Oriole these days, even when you've barely had time to learn everyone's name. Misfortune finds the rookies as easily as line drives. Red Sox@Orioles Tonight, 7:05, MASN, 105.7 FM Starters: Tim Wakefield (16-10, 4.16 ERA) vs. Garrett Olson (1-3, 7.22 ERA)

TREMBLEY TOSSED Orioles manager Dave Trembley earned his first major league ejection in the fourth inning while arguing that Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo obstructed Ramon Hernandez at third base. Trembley confronted third base umpire Ed Hickox first. When crew chief Joe West joined the argument, Trembley really got going, angrily gesticulating while remaining chest-to-chest with the umpire. He was thrown out by West but the argument carried on, with Trembley getting his money's worth with three umpires.

BOSTON -- When Dave Trembley walked into the law office of Peter Angelos on Thursday, the Orioles' new manager meeting the team's owner for the first time, they shook hands and Trembley was given an immediate piece of advice. "The first thing that he said to me was, `Dave, don't look so dejected,' " Trembley said before last night's game. "He knows what's going on here. ... I needed [that]."
