OK, Midweek Madness fans, I thought a little something related to Easter would be in order (I'll find something for Passover next year).  So here is one of the cutest 60 seconds or so in the delectable movie "Easter Parade" with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. This particular scene has nothing to do with Easter, but who cares? This is Midweek Madness, not Midweek Relevance. 

On February 1, 2004, JIMMY "Buster" of Brooklyn Park, beloved father of Roy and Richard Garland, Sandy Wills, Tammy Good, Pam Wilt and James Dalton, loving brother of Guy and Johnny Garland, Mae Deel, Sue Matlock and Dorothey Darter, and the late Betty Slagle. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the family owned and operated MCCULLY-POLYNIAK FUNERAL HOME P.A., 237 E. David and Judy Garland, of Martinsville, Va., announce the engagement of their daughter, Ruth Palmer Garland, of Martinsville, to Timothy Brian Neary of Baldwin. He is the son of Patrick and Patricia Neary, of Baldwin. The bride to be is a 2004 graduate of Carlisle School in Martinsville, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry with minors in genetics and medical ethics from North Carolina State University in 2008. She is a 2012 candidate for a doctor of medicine degree fromEastern Virginia Medical School.

On June 9, 2004, LOUISE H. GARLAND (nee Haley); beloved wife of the late H. Douglas Garland; devoted mother of Jeanne E. Porter and the late Robert D. and Suzanne Garland. After a harrowing brush with thieves who took her dog and truck in West Baltimore, a woman was reunited with her pup Thursday morning in what shelter workers are calling "an impossible reunion." In town on errands, Amy Gaffney of Easton says she got lost Tuesday night in West Baltimore. The 46-year-old rolled down her window around Fulton Street to ask directions of some young men. "The next thing I know, his arm is in my car and he unlocks the door. I was so stunned, I didn't know what was going on."

This might well date me, but one of the few prime-time entertainment shows I have been waiting for with a real sense of anticipation is the NBC variety show premiering tonight at 8, Rosie Live, with Rosie O'Donnell. The variety show, a genre that introduced me as a kid to stars like Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra through the "magic" of television and CBS, was declared dead way too soon by the pundits. The producers of American Idol figured that out and made tens of millions of dollars by simply jiggering the formula.
