Garage Fire

Four classic cars were destroyed Friday morning in a two-alarm fire in Taneytown.The vehicles, as well as some carpeting, were stored in a wooden garage in the first block of Mill Avenue owned by Lloyd Hovermale, fire officials said.A 1952 Ford pickup, a 1966 Ford Mustang, a Chevrolet Chevelle, a Pontiac Firebird and another vehicle were in the building when the fire began about 6 a.m., fire officials said.A second alarm was sounded at 6:13 a.m. because of the blaze's intensity and the nearness of a 2 1/2 -story house.

A family of five fled into freezing temperatures when smoldering ashes left in a garage ignited a fire at their Scaggsville home early yesterday, fire officials said.No one was injured in the 12:20 a.m. fire in the 10300 block of Derby Drive, but two cars and other property inside the garage and home were destroyed.The fire caused $200,000 in damage, fire officials said.Cold weather and ice hampered firefighters' efforts to fight the blaze, said Lt. Ken Byerly, a Howard County fire spokesman.

Fire Winfield: Firefighters from Winfield, Mount Airy, New Windsor, Lisbon in Howard County and Libertytown in Frederick County responded at 2: 43 a.m. yesterday to a garage fire in the 5600 block of Perry Road. Units were out an hour.

FireKeymar: Union Bridge and Frederick County firefighters responded to a garage fire on Keymar Road at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday. Units were out 62 minutes.New Windsor: New Windsor, Union Bridge and Westminster firefighters responded for an odor of smoke at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday the 1300 block of Old New Windsor Road. Units were out 21 minutes.

FireSykesville: Sykesville firefighters responded at 10: 01 a.m. Wednesday for a cleanup detail at Route 26 and Johnsville Road. Units were out 37 minutes.Sykesville: Gamber, Winfield and Randallstown firefighters assisted Sykesville at 8: 18 p.m. Wednesday, responding to a two-alarm garage fire in the 7100 block of Brangles Road. Units were out an hour. Mount Airy: Firefighters responded at 12:43 p.m. Wednesday to an automatic fire alarm in the 13000 block of Penn Shop Road. Units were out 17 minutes.

FireMount Airy: Firefighters responded at 4: 38 p.m. Sunday to a natural gas leak at Robinwood and Meadowlark avenues. Units were out 30 minutes.Mount Airy: Firefighters responded at 2: 57 p.m. Saturday to a garage fire on Ridge Road in Montgomery County.PoliceWinfield: County Recreation Department workers told police Friday that three portable bathrooms were overturned and graffiti scrawled on buildings at Mayeski- Park on Old Liberty Road. Firefighters in southwest Carroll found themselves fighting one fire and answering another call nearby yesterday afternoon.At 2:15 p.m. firefighters from Winfield, Westminster, Gamber and Reese were dispatched to a house fire on Salem Bottom Road between Nicodemus and Bloom Road.The fire started in an automobile parked in the driveway near the attached garage, fire officials said.Flames spreadfrom the car to the garage and were confined to that portion of the dwelling by the firefighters.
