When the Blast plays in its Major Soccer League home opener Oct. 19, former Kansas City defender Doug Neely will be wearing one of the team's new uniforms with No. 15 on his jersey.The club announced yesterday, Neely is the latest player to sign for the coming season, bringing the current roster number to 10.The Blast's regular-season schedule is expected to be ready late this afternoon, but assistant general manager Drew Forrester said the team will open against Dallas, Oct. 19, and will play 18 of its 20 home games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

When the Los Angeles Lakers lost four of their first five games this season -- their worst start in 12 years -- a lot of fingers were pointed at Mike Dunleavy.After winning 63 games the previous season and five NBA titles the previous decade, the Lakers were not accustomed to such problems.Their first-year coach was the logical excuse but not the right excuse."We had a rough start, but it was just an adjustment period," Dunleavy said before a recent game. "Everyone was getting used to each other.

The Baltimore Blast and Channel 45 are near an agreement under which the station will televise six regular-season Major Soccer League games this season.Bruce Lumpkin, general manager for WBFF-TV, said yesterday: "We have the basis of an agreement. I presented it to the owners today [yesterday], and on Monday I'll have an answer. I feel that answer will be yes. I have no problems with it, and the Blast has no problems."Lumpkin said the first game on the schedule is set for Dec. 26, when the Blast will play the Kansas City Comets in Kansas City, Mo.Blast general manager John Borozzi said yesterday that Art Sinclair would do the play-by-play.
