Time: 8: 20 p.m., chs, 2, 7.Line: Giants by 4.Vs. spread: Cowboys 1-1; Giants 1-1.Outlook: First Trent Green, and now Jason Garrett? So much for Monday night marquee value. Dallas will try to get by while injured QB Troy Aikman (broken clavicle) watches from the sideline. Coach Chan Gailey is known for exotic formations, but he'll probably scale the offense back until Aikman returns. Emmitt Smith, who has looked good in the first two weeks, likely will carry much of the load. After an embarrassing loss to the Raiders, the Giants have to find a running game.

Mike Tomczak's job as the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback is safe for at least two more days. When the Steelers (11-6) travel to Foxboro, Mass., on Sunday to play the New England Patriots (11-5) in an AFC semifinal playoff game, the much-maligned Tomczak will jog out as the team's starter. After that, Tomczak's role might diminish, because in the No. 2 slot is the quarterback of the future, second-year pro Kordell Stewart, who played almost 1 1/2 quarters in the AFC wild-card game last weekend against the Indianapolis Colts.

It's getting increasingly hard to finish single-round golf in a single day. This again was evident at the Middle Atlantic Pro-Amateur at Wakefield Valley. It took three days for directors officially to determine winners. As darkness fell over Carroll County Monday evening, some golfers at Wakefield were still on the course, with no lighted fairways. The purse had to be held until the last two foursomes returned to finish on Tuesday.Yet another delay occurred when records and score cards of Monday's play departed with the tournament director, who was bound for another tourney assignment in Northern Virginia on Tuesday.
