Two three-inning starts at short-season Single-A Aberdeen were enough to convince the Orioles that first-round pick Kevin Gausman is ready to make a significant jump. The No. 4 overall pick in this June's draft out of LSU will make his next start pitching for High-A Frederick, an industry source confirmed. He's skipping Low-A Delmarva. Gausman will likely make that next start Saturday for the Keys at home at Harry Grove Stadium against the Winston-Salem Dash. The 21-year-old Gausman has been dominant in his short pro career.

WESTMINSTER - It's not a full-blown breakup, but they've decided to "see other people. " Last week Carroll County officials announced that both Frederick and Carroll have agreed to pursue other partners regarding the controversial waste-to-energy incinerator that has been proposed as a joint venture between the two jurisdictions. The Carroll Board of Commissioners sent a letter in June to Frederick County outlining a desire to seek alternatives to the waste-to-energy, which was set in motion by the previous board as a facility that would be shared by both counties, and located in Frederick County.

Blaine Young isn't exactly a household name in Maryland, but the prospective contender for the Republican GOP nomination has to be a bit better known in political circles after the splash he made at the annual political rite of passage known as the J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake in Crisfield Wednesday. Young, president of the Frederick County Board of County Commissioners, brought a busload of supporters to the Eastern Shore fishing port to promote his increasingly credible candidacy.

Bundy fanned eight batters in five two-hit innings, allowing an unearned run and walking one for the High A Frederick Keys. With the performance, Bundy lowered his season ERA to 3.15, though when he left the game, Bundy was in line for the loss.

After five years as Baltimore's police commissioner - five years of sleepless nights, crime scenes and news conferences - Frederick H. Bealefeld III was ready to unplug. While Bealefeld scheduled Aug. 1 as his official retirement date, he's spending most of this month burning off vacation by hiking a 300-odd-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail - solo and almost completely out of pocket. "I really want to be alone," Bealefeld said. "A lot of people want to come with me, but I don't want to have to talk to anyone.

All Frederick E. Bouchat says he wanted years ago was recognition for his idea for the Ravens team logo. Since the South Baltimore resident first sketched a flying raven clutching a shield with a "B" and faxed it to the Maryland Stadium Authority 16 years ago, he has won a court case crediting him with creating the Baltimore Ravens' first logo. But he has never been compensated. Bouchat's long-running dispute with the Ravens took a new turn last week when he accused the franchise of another copyright infringement, this time because it appears in photos displayed at M&T Bank Stadium.

Brett Bidle, Frederick County town councilman, tea party supporter and devout Methodist, is John Waters' new BFF. That old saying about politics making strange bedfellows? Apparently, politics has nothing on hitchhiking. Back in mid-May, Bidle, a 20-year-old college student and first-term member of the Myersville Town Council, picked up a guy on the side of the road. It was Waters, Baltimore's most unregenerate bad boy, the movie director who's given sleaze a good name. Turns out Waters (who declined to be interviewed for this article)
