We have countless awesome sports photos in the archives here at The Baltimore Sun , and I have decided to share one with you each week in a regular feature called "Throwback Thursday. " With the Cincinnati Reds coming to Camden Yards this weekend for an interleague series, I decided to search for old photos from 1970, the year Frank Robinson and the Orioles beat the Reds to claim their second World Series title. In this AP file photo from September 30, 1970, Robinson is shown chilling out at his locker stall, where he was answering questions from reporters about the three other teams left standing -- the Reds, the Twins and the Pirates.

Frank Robinson, a member of the baseball Hall of Fame and two-time World Series champion with the Baltimore Orioles, will throw out the first pitch prior to the final of the President's Cup Saturday at Camden Yards. He'll be joined by Geraldine Day, widow of former Negro League star and Hall of Famer Leon Day. Robinson, who currently serves as senior adviser to Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, said he was excited to return to Baltimore. "I am very pleased to attend the championship game of the President's Cup. Baltimore has always been very special to me because of all my time there, when I was privileged to be a part of two World Championship clubs as a player and then to serve as the manager and an executive with the Orioles.

Brad Bergesen was in Baltimore this month to have his right shoulder looked at by the team's medical staff, but the visit was mostly for precautionary measures, according to both the starter and Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail . "It was more of a preventive-type thing," Bergesen said in a phone interview Wednesday night. "From what I dealt with last year, they wanted to see where I was at. They just wanted to check my strength and see how I was doing, and it's been great so far. Compared with last year, it's just leaps and bounds better than how I felt.

It's easy to get all romantic about the great Orioles teams of the past, especially when the alternative is a current version of the team that is so far under water that it's almost eligible for a federal bailout. Who wouldn't wax nostalgic about the guys who represent everything that was ever good and true about the franchise — who were the cornerstones of a team that would run off 18 straight winning seasons — when they are placed in juxtaposition with the guys who are well on their way to a losing record for the 13th straight year?
