On September 13, 2003 NANNETTELOUISE JOHNSON, beloved mother of Frank Clark Jr., Francine Heckard, Brenda Wright and Avon Clark. She is also survived by one son-in-law Ralph Wright; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edythe Wyatt, Edith Freeman and Madeline Howard; two brothers, Cecil Joyner and Alfred Joyner Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation at the Howell Funeral Home, 4600 Liberty Heights Ave, Wednesday 12 noon until 7 P.M. Family will be present 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Mrs. Johnson will lie instate Thursday 9 A.M. at the Community Baptist Church, 2311 Garrison Blvd.

The Historical Society of Carroll County celebrated Mardi Gras last month at Wilhelm Ltd. Catering with a costume party that raised more than $4,000 for the society's preservation efforts.This was the society's first Mardi Gras, and more than 150 people attended in either costume or black tie.The Westminster High School Drama Club provided entertainment that ranged from Tarot card reading to juggling to circus and mime acts.The group Just Us provided music for dancing after a New Orleans-style dinner.

Sarah Lippa is certain that her 14-year-old son, Seth, is not in a gang, but she still wants to be aware of the realities of gangs - even in affluent Howard County. That's why the Elkridge mother and about 50 others attended a recent gang prevention presentation and learned that some of the same gang problems found in neighboring counties exist in their own backyard. Parents "really need to be more on top of what their kids are doing," said presenter Frank Clark, gang intervention specialist with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
