HIGH SCHOOL plays are a lot of fun, and "Appointment With Death," an Agatha Christie production on tap this weekend at Francis Scott Key High School in Uniontown, is no exception. In the play, Sara Sykes plays the physically frail but controlling Mrs. Boynton, a stepmother of two grown sons and a daughter. She gets on her children's nerves, governing their every thought. The pressure of her presence makes them consider the unthinkable: murder. They fantasize that once she is dead, they will be free to pursue their goals and dreams.

"THE HARDEST PART of this year happened when the yearbooks came in on Thursday, and we started passing them around for signing," said Elizabeth Kurrle, a graduating senior at Francis Scott Key High School."I wasn't prepared for it. Every other year, I've written something in my friends' yearbooks like, `Have a good summer, see you next fall,' " she said. "Now I'm writing to people I may never see again after graduation. I don't know what to say."Elizabeth probably hasn't always been at such a loss for words.

The Francis Scott Key Eagles certainly had their opportunities in the first half of last night's football game against Boonsboro.Their inability to capitalize was the difference, as the visiting Warriors shook off a turnover-filled first half to come away with a 14-0 win in Uniontown.Although the Francis Scott Key defense and special teams played big throughout the game, the offense was unable to move the ball on a big Boonsboro defense that allowed just three Key first downs. The Eagles were held without a yard in the second half.

Francis Scott Key quarterback Chris Kolb had one thought as his team went into halftime last night with a four-touchdown lead over No. 12 Westminster. "We just had to keep our focus," Kolb said. The host Eagles did ... but just barely. After stunning its Carroll County rival by taking a 28-point lead, Key managed to stave off a furious second-half rally by the Owls, getting a late interception by linebacker Brad Martz and running out the game's final 6:23 in a 49-42 upset win. "We had to keep our hearts in the game and keep driving," said Kolb (8-for-14, 203 yards)
