Separate incidents on Baltimore-area interstates forced lane closures at the close of Monday's rush hour, according to the state Department of Transportation. In Baltimore City, debris in the roadway on the inner loop of Interstate 695 at the Francis Scott Key Bridge closed one of two traffic lanes at 9:06 a.m., DOT said. A collision in Baltimore County on Interstate 95 South at the Baltimore Beltway exit has closed one of two southbound shoulders at 8:49 a.m., DOT said. Morning-long minor delays on the Metro subway, light rail and MARC train continued at 9:15 a.m., according to the Maryland Transit Administration.

Five traffic incidents, including two in Baltimore County, prompted road closures during Friday morning's commute, according to the state Department of Transportation. A single-vehicle crash in Baltimore County on the outer loop of Interstate 695 at the Northwest Expressway exit closed the left outer loop shoulder at 8:43 a.m., DOT said. Also in Baltimore County, a four-vehicle collision on Interstate 95 South at the 63.9 mile marker has closed one of two southbound traffic shoulders at 8:34 a.m., DOT said.

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, traffic was slow on the inner loop of I-695 at the Francis Scott Key Bridge, due to an accident involving two vehicles. An accident was slowing traffic on Frankfurst Avenue near Childs Street in Baltimore City. There were no major delays reported on Baltimore area transit systems.

State officials today break ground on an $89.5 million construction project that will double the northern access to the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which carries Interstate 695 traffic across the Patapsco River.The Key Bridge is the least traveled route across Baltimore's harbor. The bridge handles one-fourth the traffic of most other parts of the Beltway. Its average daily load of 25,000 vehicles compares with more than 100,000 along most of I-695.

A search will resume today for a 41-year-old man who disappeared when a small boat sank yesterday in the Patapsco River near the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Coast Guard officials said.The search for Harold C. Howell of Baltimore was called off for the night about 9 p.m., officials said. Four others were rescued about 5: 45 p.m., shortly after a distress call was transmitted.The man's life jacket, which he was wearing at the time of the accident, was recovered, said Jeff S. Brown, a Coast Guard spokesman.

Accidents were slowing traffic at North Point Road and Quad Avenue in Dundalk, Cross Country Boulevard and Greenspring Avenue in Baltimore County, and the inner loop of I-695 at the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore City. A utility problem was slowing traffic at Perring Parkway and Hillsway Avenue in Baltimore County. There were no major delays reported on Baltimore area transit systems.

A Florida man was killed today in a head-on collision on the Baltimore Beltway just northeast of Francis Scott Key Bridge.The fatal accident in the northbound lanes of the Beltway closed down the highway in both directions for three hours, causing traffic delays and backups in the area during the morning rush hour.A Toll Facility Police spokesman said the van was southbound on Interstate 695 about 5:30 a.m. when it crossed the center line while attempting to pass a car and collided with a tractor-trailer in the northbound lane.

Coast Guard divers will resume a search this morning for a man missing in the Patapsco River near the Francis Scott Key Bridge after his boat capsized last night.The missing 45-year-old, whose identity was not released, was in a 14-foot Landau, an aluminum-hulled, flat-bottom boat, with a female companion when it capsized sometime after 7:30 p.m. in the water off Hawkins Point at Fort Armistead Park.The Coast Guard received a report about 8 p.m. from a motorist crossing the bridge who saw the capsized boat in the water.
