HOW THE GAME WAS LOST The Ravens could do nothing right on offense, defense or special teams, falling behind 23-0 in the first 13 minutes, and trailing by 30 points at halftime. The Colts out-gained the Ravens by 198 yards and forced three turnovers in the first half. BIG LETDOWN Cornerback Samari Rolle called last Monday night's game against the New England Patriots "our Super Bowl" before the Ravens went down to the wire with the NFL's only unbeaten team. So what was last night's debacle against the Indianapolis Colts, the first preseason game for the Ravens?

DETROIT -- The numbers are impressive -- 359 completions in 580 passes, 4,168 yards, 30 touchdowns, and an 88.6 quarterback rating. The best numbers in the AFC, third-best in the NFL.Just imagine what Miami quarterback Dan Marino might have done if it hadn't been for that bum right leg."He's just done a remarkable job," Dolphins coach Don Shula said Wednesday. "He worked very hard on the rehabilitation and got started with some big games early in the year."He's very, very intense. He's focused on what he wants to get done, and I think being named the starter in the Pro Bowl is a real tribute to him and what he's done coming off this injury.

Art Donovan is standing before me in the considerable flesh, wearing the usual deadpan look on that basset-hound face. "Now you write a good article," he says in his Bronx yawp. And he shakes a meaty fist, the same one that once clubbed its way past a generation of National Football League offensive linemen on Donovan's way to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.Well, OK, Artie, even though I know you were just kidding (you were, weren't you?), here we go:The occasion of our meeting was a taping of "Braase, Donovan and Fans," a production of local sportscaster Tom Davis, who also serves as host.

Select company The Jets' Vinny Testaverde, 39, became the ninth NFL quarterback to pass for more than 40,000 yards. He joined Dan Marino, John Elway, Warren Moon, Fran Tarkenton, Dan Fouts, Brett Favre, Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas. Testaverde has thrown for 40,036 yards. Toothless Tigers The Bengals fell to 0-9 all-time in Oakland. Cincinnati has beaten the Raiders just once in 13 tries on the West Coast, coming in 1988 when the Raiders were in Los Angeles. Return to form Colts' Edgerrin James had his first 100-yard rushing game since going for 106 against Dallas on Nov. 17, 2002.

Running backsRunning game was sluggish in first half, and didn't get results until second when passing game opened things up. Ravens had 95 yards total, but best average belonged to Vinny "Fran Tarkenton" Testaverde.CQuarterbackTestaverde ran no-huddle with precision and made some great throws. But he should have thrown ball away instead of taking sacks couple times in first half.BReceiversGroup wasn't involved in game much until midway through third quarter. Michael Jackson had solid game despite double coverage.

HOW THE GAME WAS WON The Ravens earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with ball-control offense and ball-hawking defense. Their offense dominated time of possession, controlling the clock for 36 minutes, 21 seconds (compared to the Bills' 23:39). Their defense scored the Ravens' only touchdown when cornerback Chris McAlister returned an interception 31 yards for a score in the third quarter. DOMINATING DEFENSE The NFL's top-ranked defense has held six of its past seven opponents to one or no touchdowns.

Whether you adore him or would just as soon never see him again, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has shown a knack for self-mockery. Admit it, you've chuckled at the Sprint commercial in which a badly disguised Manning extols the virtues of cell phone video by saying, "Like Peyton Manning! That guy's pretty good, if you like 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterbacks [with a] laser rocket arm." Does Manning need a script and many takes to pull off such moments? We'll find out tonight when he becomes the 22nd athlete and 25th sports figure (not counting professional wrestlers or actors from the Rocky films)
