These are extremely expensive, pivotal times for the Ravens, an organization facing major financial and roster decisions surrounding quarterback Joe Flacco. Monday marks the first day NFL teams can name a franchise player, and general manager Ozzie Newsome says Flacco is the Ravens' only candidate for the designation. If the Super Bowl champions don't sign Flacco to a contract extension prior to a March 4 deadline to utilize the franchise tag, they're expected to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent through either an exclusive franchise tender of $20.46 million or a non-exclusive franchise tender of $14.6 million.

Aw, Joe, say it ain't so that your contract talks will drag on and you and the Ravens won't be able to reach a long-term agreement ("Flacco talks to begin at combine," Feb. 12). Baltimore loves you and we're so proud of your play for the last five years. You've shown us you're a blue collar Joe just like the rest of us - only with a lot more talent - and we don't want to believe you could hold the Ravens hostage for millions of dollars your great- grandchildren will never be able to spend.

Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco has already gone to Disney World so why not New York Fashion Week? Last night, Flacco and his wife Dana attended Tommy Hilfiger's men's show on Park Avenue and posed for a few photos with the designer for good measure. Earlier that day, Flacco and Dana appeared on Live with Kelly and Michael. “I wanted to give my wife the opportunity to be pampered a little bit,” Mr. Flacco told The New York Times. “I wanted her get some outfits and get her makeup done,” he said.

While the Ravens front office contemplates Joe Flacco's agent's insistence that his client should be the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, Flacco's teammates have a pretty good idea of where Flacco stands with the rest of his peers. “He deserves to get paid,” outside linebacker Terrell Suggs said as a guest on The NFL Network's “NFL Total Access” program Friday night. “Where he scales at, that's between our front office and his agent. But he definitely deserves it. The man has a championship ring and you reward your champion by paying him.” Wide receiver and return specialist Jacoby Jones appeared on the same program and voiced a similar opinion.

The NFL has released some intimate audio and video from the sidelines of Super Bowl XLVII, and one of the most interesting exchanges was filmed on the Ravens sideline before the final play of Baltimore's 34-31 win. As Sam Koch prepared to boot a free kick to San Francisco 49ers return Ted Ginn Jr., quarterback Joe Flacco told his teammates to run onto the field and tackle Ginn if it looked like he was going to score. This, of course, is illegal and could have resulted in an automatic touchdown, but Flacco wasn't sure about the rule.

Proved he deserves it Sam Farmer Los Angeles Times Tom Brady. Drew Brees. Aaron Rodgers. Peyton Manning. Pick an elite quarterback. Joe Flacco deserves that kind of money. He proved it in the playoffs, throwing 11 touchdown passes and no interceptions. He proved it last year, when the Ravens would have made the Super Bowl but for Lee Evans dropping a TD pass that was in his hands. Flacco is the unquestioned leader of the franchise, and a guy who has won at least one playoff game in each of his five seasons.

Really, Dan? Joe Flacco is equal to Johnny U (" Super Bowl victory was Baltimore to the bone," Feb. 5)? I am a big Flacco fan, not so much a Rodricks fan. Only time will tell if Joe Cool is on the same level as Johnny U. Dan, however, is on par with Michael Olesker. Neither of them can find the "hyperbole" button on their keyboard. Baltimore as "The city of 'The Wire?'" It's "surreal to see Baltimore on the big stage again?" I don't have an "inferiority complex" about being from Baltimore, or about myself.

Contract negotiations between the Ravens and quarterback Joe Flacco have yet to resume, but the elite asking price the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player hopes to command is becoming clear. Now that Flacco has led the Ravens to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers with three touchdown passes in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, his agent is hoping to make him the highest-paid quarterback in the game. That would entail a multi-year contract exceeding New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees' annual average of $20 million and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's annual average of $18 million.

Members of the Blackburn family of Forest Hill didn't attend Sunday's Super Bowl in New Orleans, but they probably experienced the next best thing about the Baltimore Ravens' heart-stopping 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Scott and Kim Blackburn and their children, Brooke, 9, and Ethan, 5, were visiting Disney World in Orlando on Monday where they saw Ravens quarterback and Super Bowl MPV Joe Flacco make the traditional day after the game appearance at the Magic Kingdom. "It was cool," Scott Blackburn said by phone from Orlando, adding that the family vacation to Disney World this week ended up being perfectly scripted.

Quarterback Joe Flacco is getting the credit that he deserves for leading the Ravens throughout the playoffs and then to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. It will be interesting if Ravens coach John Harbaugh gets his. Aside from a curious fake field goal try on 4 th -and-9 in the second quarter, Harbaugh had a near perfect week. From the moment he arrived in New Orleans, he did and said all the right things and set the tone for his team. He was relaxed, patient and accommodating, establishing a far different presence than his brother.
