A gunman wearing surgical gloves, black sunglasses and a camouflage-style baseball cap robbed an Annapolis bank of an undisclosed amount of money Tuesday, county police said.The man, who displayed a semiautomatic handgun, walked into the Annapolis Bank & Trust branch in the 700 block of E. College Parkway about 1: 30 p.m. and announced a robbery.He jumped over the counter, took cash from several teller stations, then fled on foot toward westbound U.S. 50, police said.A 26-year-old woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night while walking through her Glen Burnie neighborhood, police said.

A man broke into an Arnold home Thursday, lay in wait in a shower and raped a 60-year-old woman at knifepoint, county police said.The woman went to her bathroom about 9: 30 p.m. after she heard water running in the sink and the man grabbed her from behind, held a large knife to her throat and raped her, then demanded her wallet, police said.The woman told her assailant where her purse was and the man fled with an undisclosed amount of money from it.Police, who searched with dogs and a helicopter, found the knife near the woman's home but did not find the man, who apparently had forced a rear sliding glass door to get into the house.

A Crofton woman was robbed at gunpoint of her handbag Wednesday in Severn, county police said.Nora R. Koch, 24, told police she was getting out of her car in the 1800 block of Hawk Court about 11: 30 p.m. when a man walked up, pointed a gun and demanded money.After Koch gave the man her bag, he ran toward Pioneer City. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man who robbed a NationsBank branch yesterday in the 9800 block of Broken Land Parkway.The man entered the bank about 10 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money and implying that he had a weapon, said Sgt. Steven Keller, a Howard County police spokesman. Police would not discuss the contents of the note or confirm whether the suspect had a weapon.The teller gave the man an undetermined amount of money, which included a dye pack that exploded as he ran into the woods near the bank's parking lot. The dye would have discolored the money and the man's skin, police said.

A man loitering near Harper's Choice Middle School in Columbia Wednesday afternoon exposed himself to two students as they walked past, Howard County police said.Officers searched the area but did not find the man.Police said two teen-age girls walking to the school in Harper's Choice Village saw a man standing on the corner of Hesperus Drive and Eliots Oak Drive about 1 p.m.After they walked by the man, they looked back and saw him unzipping his pants and exposing himself. He zipped his pants back up and sat down.

A Woodland Beach man who had his car stereo stolen followed tracks in the newly fallen snow early Friday to find a suspect, county police said.Lytton Edward Peake, 20, of the 1600 block of Fullerton Road in Edgewater, was arrested and charged with theft.Patrick H. Wood, of the 1600 block of Bay Ridge Road, discovered that his car had been broken into some time after midnight and saw two sets of footprints leading away from the car. He followed the tracks through several streets in Woodland Beach until he reached two men on Salisbury Road, police said.

An armed man wearing a ski mask tried to rob a Columbia gas station Friday, but he ran when a clerk pressed an alarm button, Howard County police said.The clerk was not injured, police said.According to police, the man approached the clerk at the Exxon gas station in the 7100 block of Minstrel Way at 1: 18 a.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money.But the clerk immediately activated an alarm system and picked up a phone to call police. The man ran to a black vehicle and fled, police said.

A Glen Burnie man was arrested Monday after county police said he broke a window at a Shell gas station in Pasadena.Samuel Anthony Ziegler, 19, of the 8000 block of Covington Ave. was charged with destruction of property.The gas station manager called police around 4 a.m. to report the broken window. She told police a man who appeared to be intoxicated came to the gas station in the 100 block of Mountain Road, but that she refused to allow him into the convenience store. Soon after, she heard the crash of breaking glass and she found a broken window on the west side of the building.

Two county police officers talked a distraught man out of jumping off a Waterford Road overpass onto westbound Route 100 about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.Officer Eric A. Snair and Cpl. Donald R. Pearson arrived on the scene to find the man standing outside the fence on the overpass, police said.Corporal Pearson talked to the man for about 20 minutes and persuaded him not to jump. He was taken to North Arundel Hospital for an emergency psychiatric evaluation by Officer Snair, police said.

When justice finally was done for John Doe, no family members came to the courtroom to see his killer sentenced to eight years in prison. No one stood to tell Judge Elsbeth L. Bothe yesterday how they grieved for the young man who died from two stab wounds to the chest, surrounded by about 15 adversaries on a South Baltimore street.That's because two years after his death, no one has been able to figure out the name of the man who died that night. Not even Brian K. Abrams, 25, who yesterday pleaded guilty to manslaughter with the victim's knife.

Wearing a pink sweater and clutching a stuffed bunny rabbit, the 7-year-old girl spoke in a quavering voice as she answered the prosecutor's questions. The man she knew as "Mr. Mike" had kissed and fondled her numerous times, she told the jury, when her baby sitter left them alone. The second-grader wiggled in her chair and colored furiously with markers as she told how the man had warned her to not to tell anyone. She put her hand up as if blocking from view the white-haired man sitting at the defense table.

A man broke into a Westminster home Sunday night, demanded money from a female resident while wielding an unknown tool and then fled, state police reported yesterday. The intruder broke in through a rear sliding door of the house in the 1000 block of Humbert Schoolhouse Road about 10:30 p.m., police said. After walking up the basement stairs and demanding money from the woman, the suspect fled on foot. The woman was not injured, police said. The robber might be linked to another crime in which vehicles were ransacked about a half-mile down the road in the 5000 block of Biemiller Road, police said.

A suspected thief apparently drowned last night in Hogpen Creek in Essex after abandoning a stolen truck that was being pursued by Baltimore County police, authorities reported. The man was seen about 8 p.m. stealing a work truck in the 2400 block of Holly Neck Road by people who called police. The vehicle was pursued to Anne Avenue and Carvel Grove Road, where the man got out and jumped into the chilly waters of the narrow creek to get away in the darkness, police said. When a ground search failed to find the man, police and fire department marine units conducted a search that ended at 10:15 p.m., when a body was pulled from the water.

Warrant issued for arrest of man in assault on infant A Severn man demanded money from two Autumn Lake Court residents by placing a handgun to their infant daughter's arm Tuesday night, Anne Arundel County police said. Milton McLean, 33, of the 1800 block of Montreal Road has been charged in a warrant with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and first-degree burglary, police said. He was still being sought as of last night. Police said the infant's father wrestled the assailant for the weapon while another resident ran next door to call 911. Officers were unable to find the man when they arrived at the scene, police said.
