On October 31, 2007, BRENDA L. FIKE (nee Farrow); beloved mother of four daughters; loving grandmother to five grandsons and one granddaughter. Also survived by three great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends. A Wake will be held on Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dugout Tavern, 11010 Bird river Grove Road. Visiting will be held on Tuesday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue. Interment private.

Also survived by eight grandchildren Brenda Fike, Janice Fike, Chad Fike, Meghan Hammond, Michael Hammond, Brandon Kenny, Kyle Kenny, and Kelly Kenny and a life long friend Ruff Rahman. A service will be held at the family owned McComas Funeral Home, P.A., Abingdon, MD on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery, Baltimore, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home in Abingdon on Tuesday from 10-12 noon.

Ardith Fike, a retired Baltimore County junior high school teacher, died Tuesday of coronary artery disease at Normandie Ridge nursing home in York, Pa. The former Woodlawn resident was 88. Born Ardith Wotring in Amboy, W. Va., she earned a degree in English at Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W. Va. She taught at Sudbrook, Featherbed, Reisterstown and Franklin junior high schools for 23 years before her 1972 retirement. She belonged to the Teachers Association of Baltimore County.

The homes on Red Tulip Court in Taneytown seem different only in their colors. But 405 Red Tulip Court stands out because of its threatening sign to trespassers: "Warning: these premises patrolled by an attack ferret."Actually, it's protected by 11 ferrets at the moment, each one waiting to "attack" visitors with a kiss and an invitation to play."We used to have a sign in our car that said 'Show ferrets on board,' " said Terry Fike, owner of the otter family cousins. "That is, until one guy tried to run us off the beltway while trying to show us his ferrets.

Bel Air Bowl played host to a Summer Foursome Team Tournament that drew teams from throughout the state to compete for the $4,400 total prize list.First place was captured by the Bad Finger Returns team, captained by William Clark of Silver Spring.D. C. Holland was captain of the second-place Suitland Gang. Third place went to the Family Affair, captain John Holmes, from Fort Washington.In the Mix Or Match Doubles event, Le Brocius and Brian Bever pounded out a scratch total of 1,453 to win. That total was 169 above the second-place team of Rene Johnson and Cliff Johnson and 385 pins above the third-place team of Angela Greer and Dwayne Holland.
