So far, we have escaped the tons of snow that Mother Nature dumped on us the past few years, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and a bag of melting crystals handy. Valley Brook Community Church will celebrate African American history with "Thus Far By Faith," Sunday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at 7065 Deepage Drive, in Columbia. This special service, which includes song, poetry and worship, celebrates God's faithfulness through the journey of African Americans. The commemoration will culminate in a free soul food dinner at the church's Fellowship Hall, at 3333 Spencerville Road, in Burtonsville. The art of Randy Walters will be featured. WHEN THE congregation of Eutaw Place Baptist Church moved from Bolton Hill to Baltimore County in 1969, members adopted a growth strategy that many churches followed at the time.They built a fellowship hall and education center that could double as a worship setting for the church, renamed Woodbrook Baptist, and deferred construction of the main sanctuary until they raised enough money to do the job right.Twenty-seven years later, they're still worshiping in the "temporary" hall -- but not for much longer.

Editor: I am writing to thank everyone who came out to support my fundraiser held in the fellowship hall of Grace Reformed Episcopal Church in Havre de Grace. Mrs. Kimie Ranken made the event possible by reserving the hall as well as providing the many volunteers who prepared and served the delicious spaghetti. Groundbreaking planned for church fellowship hall Groundbreaking on a fellowship hall addition to College Parkway Baptist Church in Arnold is scheduled for Monday. The addition is planned to accommodate youth activities, dinners and other functions, according to the Baltimore firm of Gant Hart Brunnett Architects, prime architectural firm for the $450,000 project. Anticipated completion date is Dec. 7. The Rev. G. David Yeager is pastor of the church, which has been growing since its founding in 1954 as the Belvedere Heights Mission.

On February 11, 2005, MARGIE L., beloved wife of the late Palmer Gillenwater, devoted mother of Lanetta Lee Elliott. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 3 P.M. at the Woodbrook Baptist Church, 25 Stevenson La. with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Interment private. The life of ROSEMARY STENDORF, who passed away on December 6, 2007, mother of Susan (nee Grubb) Leaverton, currently of Montana and companion of Emil Rusinko, will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9 at 11AM at St Marks Lutheran Church, 1900 St Paul St, Baltimore. The service will be followed by a luncheon in the fellowship hall.

On December 3, 2005, RONALD W. FIEDLER; loving brother of Shirley K. Ochlech, and James W. Fitzgerald; also survived by three aunts and several cousins. Family will receive friends 10 AM, Saturday, December 17 at the fellowship hall of St. Timothy's Church, 100 E. Timonium Road, Timonium, MD 21093, with a memorial service at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.

Members of St. Mary's Evangelical Lutheran Church are repainting andrefurbishing their sanctuary.The two-month project, started in early February, is expected to be completed in a few weeks."

St. Andrew's United to hold yard sale St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 4 Wallace Manor Road, Edgewater, will hold its weekly yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. HOOPERS ISLAND - It has been more than three months since Tropical Storm Isabel ripped apart the watermen's villages of Fishing Creek and Hoopersville on this remote tendril of sand and marsh in Dorchester County. People still wonder whether things will ever be the same. While most communities hit hard by Isabel across the state are well on their way to recovery, these villages are still struggling. The bridge and causeway that link the two communities are open only a portion of each day as road crews make repairs.
