I was pleased to read in the latest Columbia Flier that Regina Clay was successful in including $75,000 in the new CA Budget Year for additional amenities for the Faulkner Ridge Pool. I have been a strong supporter of the Faulkner Ridge Pool and for 42 years have used it daily with my wife during the summer season. Last year I lobbied intensely to keep this pool open, and was pleased that the CA Board of Directors voted not to close it. Since I live in the Longfellow section of Harpers Choice, I am unable to vote for Ms. Clay.

Roan S. Faulkner, a Pentecostal bishop who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a parishioner after she had come to him for advice on a family matter, was given a suspended 18-month prison sentence Wednesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court. During the investigation into his conduct with the 43-year-old parishioner, three other women associated with Faulkner's New Life Pentecostal Ministries in Catonsville told authorities that the bishop had made physical advances toward them, although none of those acts rose to the level of the attack on the parishioner, whom he forced to perform a sexual act and tried to rape, according to prosecutors.

In January 1936, William Faulkner had just completed his latest novel and begun his latest drinking binge. He handed the new manuscript to a friend and said, "I want you to read this. ... I think it's the best novel yet written by an American."It sounded like the bourbon talking, but Faulkner was right. Still is. The fellow whom Faulkner had met while working for Warner Bros. held in his hands the world's only copy of what would become - after some revision -"Absalom, Absalom!", the publication of which should have by now settled the question of what is The Great American Novel.

Roan S. Faulkner, bishop of a Pentecostal church in Catonsville, pleaded guilty Tuesday to assaulting a 43-year-old congregant last year after she went to him for advice on a family matter. By pleading to the second-degree assault charge, the defendant avoided a trial on seven criminal counts levied against him, including attempted second-degree rape, two sex offenses and committing unnatural or perverted acts. The remaining counts were dropped. Under the plea agreement, Faulkner, 63, the pastor of New Life Pentecostal Ministries, could be sentenced to 10 years in prison but will serve no more than 18 months.

On the website of a Pentecostal church in Catonsville, potential congregants are welcomed with a blessing and a hope that they will explore "all the wonderful ministries our church has to offer." "We would love to meet you and your family and share God's love with you," the site says. But when a 43-year-old woman asked the church's bishop in February for advice on handling some family problems, he sexually assaulted her, according to police. The bishop, Roan Samuel Faulkner Sr., 62, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree and fourth-degree sex offenses, attempted second-degree rape and perverted practice.
