A woman was found fatally shot Thursday evening in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City, a man was discovered dead on the grounds nearby and another woman was critically injured by gunfire — turning a quiet, family neighborhood near the historic downtown into a crime scene. Police and SWAT team members swarmed the 3600 block of Rogers Ave., just up the hill from the historic mill town's Main Street, and blocked off a section of the road after receiving a call about 5:20 p.m. from a custodian at the church, who said he'd found two women in a church office suffering from gunshot wounds.

The mother of a juvenile suspect who admitted this week to accidentally shooting 13-year-old Monae Turnage is being investigated in connection with circumstances surrounding the killing, the woman's attorney has confirmed. The attorney, Isaac Klein, said a prosecutor told him his client's DNA was found on Monae's bra. Two of Monae's relatives gave a similar account, saying homicide detectives informed them that DNA from the mother of the 13-year-old suspect was found on the girl's body.

The crowd of more that 80 people that packed a Belair Road bar for an extended happy hour featuring $2 drinks did not deter a gunman who, police said, got by a bouncer, pushed through the patrons and found his target sitting in a secluded spot in the back. Derrick Deon Smith was shot several times in the head and body early Wednesday morning, and collapsed between the bar and breezeway, police said. The 33-year-old was the seventh person killed in Baltimore by gunfire since Friday night — the deadliest stretch this year.

A Baltimore Police officer fatally shot a knife-wielding man after responding to a family disturbance in North Baltimore, officials said, the first police shooting since the agency implemented new rules governing the investigation of such incidents. The victim was identified as Sheron Carter Jackson, 21, who lived in the 2500 block of W. Coldspring Lane, the block where the shooting took place. Anthony Guglielmi, the Police Department's chief spokesman, said police were called to a home at about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday for an individual with a weapon who was “about to do something crazy.” As an officer approached the front door of the home, police say Jackson walked outside displaying a “knife-like object” later determined to be a folding knife.
