PAULA CIARA, of North Falmouth, MA, formerly of Baltimore, MD, died Friday, September 24, 2004. She was 71. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Mario Ciara; two daughters, Susan Ciara Hathaway of Darien, CT and Ann Ciara Olsen of Magnolia, MD; a sister, Jacqueline Sunderland Finer of Washington, D.C. and three grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, September 29, at Saint Elizabeth's Church, N. Falmouth, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to Cape Cod COPD Support Group, 404 Great Marsh, Centerville, MD 02632.

Woods Hole, Mass. - Outside the Captain Kidd restaurant on Water Street, and a few footfalls behind the drawbridge that opens at Great Harbor and Vineyard Sound, nearly 10,000 of the fit and faithful gather at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 for the 25th running of the Falmouth Road Race.The 7.1-mile event - too long to be a fun run and too short to cause wall-hitting strain - is regarded by the nation's elite fleet foots and the local 12-minutes-a-mile foot-draggers as the grandest athletic outing of the summer.

A memorial service for C. Baynard Perryclear, a retired partner in Towson Associates, a real estate development firm, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the North Falmouth, Mass., Congregational Church.Mr. Perryclear, who was 82 and had lived in North Falmouth since 1977, died Saturday at a nursing home in Falmouth, Mass., of Parkinson's disease.Before moving to Cape Cod, he had lived in the Baltimore area for 34 years and worked as a furniture manufacturer's representative.A native of Savannah, Ga., he was reared in Princeton, N.J., andeducated at Princeton University.

Paula T. Ciara, a former educator who had been active in the Junior League of Baltimore, died of cancer Sept. 24 at her home in North Falmouth, Mass. She was 71. She was born Paula Tippett in Baltimore and raised in the city's Homewood section. She was the daughter of the late William T. Tippett, chief judge of the old People's Court. A graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School, she earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1954 from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and a master's in education in 1979 from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass.

Nicu Ceausescu, 45, the hard-drinking playboy son of Romania's late communist dictator, died yesterday at General Hospital in Vienna, Austria, where he had been treated for internal bleeding, a hospital spokeswoman said. His parents, Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu, who ruled Romania for a quarter-century, were executed by a firing squad after a hurried trial on Christmas Day 1989.William John Curran, 71, a public health attorney and Harvard University professor who helped establish health law as a specialty, died of cancer Sunday in Falmouth, Mass.
