The Carroll County Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a conditional use for a day care center at Faith Lutheran Church, 1700 St. Andrews Way, Eldersburg.The Grow, Learn & Play Day Care Inc. made the request to move from the Freedom Village Shopping Center. The church and Grow, Learn & Play have an agreement for the day care center to lease space on the church's lower level and to use some outside area as a playground.The day care center has 12 adult employees and a capacity of 65 children ages 2 to 5.The board approved the request but limited the operation of the center to weekdays and no later than 7 p.m.FireGamber: Firefighters from Reese assisted Gamber at 1: 33 a.m. Monday, responding for a fire alarm in the 2700 block of Cold Saturday Drive.

Faith Child Development Center's pre-kindergarten class celebrated its graduation ceremony May 16. Colorful graduation hats decorated the bulletin board and graduation streamers hung from the ceiling. But the mood was far from cheerful after the event, as the staff of the school shut its doors to students and their families for the last time. On May 11, Faith Lutheran Church announced that Faith Child Development Center, which has offered classes for ages 2 through pre-k for 12 years, would not reopen next school year.

On July 6, 2003; ELLSWORTH E. "MIKE", 80. Was born in Baltimore 1923 Late of Flossmoor, Illinois. Beloved husband of the late Virginia W. (nee Wirtz); loving father of Michael (Virginia) Mullineaux of Beecher, Ill and Gregory (Della) Mullineaux of St. Charles, III; cherished grandfather of four; great-grandfather of two; dear brother of Lucille Mullineaux of Westminster, MD and William (Delores) Mullineaux of Eldersburg, MD. He was a retired Internal Audit Manager for Amoco Oil. He was member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1960 and was a World War II Army Air Corps Bomber Pilot.

Graveside services for Janet Katenkamp Collins, a retired employee of the Social Security Administration, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Lorraine Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5608 Dogwood Road in Woodlawn.Mrs. Collins died Thursday of cancer at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C. She was 67 and had lived in Leesville, S.C., for the past 12 years.Born in Baltimore, she attended Friends School.Mrs. Collins worked at Social Security for four decades and retired in 1978 as chief of the travel unit.

The front lawn is the stage, the audience is made up of bundled-up church members fortified with hot chocolate. The cast includes fidgety children and, sometimes, goats, donkeys and sheep. A handful of churches across the region put on outdoor "live Nativities" in the evenings leading up to Christmas, when community theater meets the faithful on the road to Bethlehem. The reason, say clergy members across denominations and geographical lines, is that acting out the story, whether in a still life or pantomime, makes the birth of Jesus one night about 2006 years ago more real.

Choir presents `Miracle of Love' The Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church choir will present the Christmas cantata, "Miracle of Love," at the 10:15 a.m. worship today at 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown. Choral composer Stan Pethel's cantata tells the story of Christmas through song and narration. Soloists will include Debbie Strine and Carol Hansborough, and father and daughter duo Steve and Keri Scheller. Child care, a children's sermon and video, and refreshments after the service will be available.

Henry Loree McRobie, a Catonsville lawyer, died Jan. 7 at Howard County General Hospital after suffering a heart attack. The Sykesville resident was 64. Mr. McRobie was driving on Route 32 in Howard County when he was stricken. His car crossed the double-yellow line and collided with a tractor-trailer. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Oakland, he was a graduate of Southern High School in Garrett County. After serving in the Marine Corps, he earned a bachelor's degree from what is now Frostburg State University.
