Amy Langville's desperation three-point shot at the buzzer fell short, and Fairleigh Dickinson beat Mount St. Mary's, 72-69, in a Northeast Conference game yesterday in Hackensack, N.J.It was only the fourth time in eight years in the NEC that the Mountaineers have lost back-to-back conference games.Fairleigh Dickinson (5-5, 1-1) jumped to a 20-12 lead midway through the opening period, but Mount St. Mary's (5-5, 0-2) tied the game at 27 with 2: 29 left in the half on Langville's three-pointer.

Butler jumped to a 15-2 lead, and UMES didn't get closer than 10 points after that. Aaron McKinney led UMES with 18 points. The Hawks were out-rebounded, 46-19. Fairleigh Dickinson was beaten by Rhode Island on Tuesday, 90-65. Reserve Kareen Thompson had 12 points, and Jemo King added 11 off the bench.

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Antwan Dasher scored 22 points to lead Fairleigh Dickinson to an 80-64 victory over Mount St. Mary's last night in the Northeast Conference regular-season finale for both.Riley Inge led the Mountaineers with 23 points. Chris McGuthrie and Michael Watson scored 13 each for Mount St. Mary's. Watson paced the Mount with 11 rebounds.Fairleigh Dickinson (15-11, 11-7) shot 52 percent in the first half to 27 percent for the Mountaineers (14-12, 12-6) in taking a 43-35 halftime lead.

EMMITSBURG -- Mount St. Mary's finally broke the Fairleigh Dickinson spell and, as a result, got off to a running start in the Northeast Conference.After eight straight defeats to the Knights dating to February 1990, the Mountaineers rolled to an 89-69 victory last night at Knott Arena, breaking their four-game losing streak.It was never a contest after Mount St. Mary's went on a 9-0 run late in the first half to take a 35-23 lead.Fairleigh Dickinson (4-5, 0-1) pulled within nine with the first basket of the second half, but lacked the firepower from outside to sustain a rally.

Elijah Allen came off the Fairleigh Dickinson bench to contribute 12 points and three assists. Duane Posey and Rashon Turner had 11 and 10 points, respectively.Aaron McKinney scored 16 points to lead UMES. EMMITSBURG -- Go figure.Earlier last week, Mount St. Mary's went on the road, where it had a 24-game winless streak, and defeated two Northeast Conference opponents while shooting better than 50 percent in each game.Last night, the Mountaineers returned to Knott Arena and couldn't hit much of anything. The result was a 60-57 defeat to Fairleigh Dickinson, a team that was off to its worst start since 1964-65.Mount St. Mary's (3-7, 2-1) shot 36.5 percent from the field, made just two of 14 three-point attempts and got outfought inside by the injury-depleted Knights.

EMMITSBURG -- Fairleigh Dickinson (23-6) defeated Mount St. Mary's, 78-55, in the championship game of the Northeast Conference women's tournament at Knott Arena last night. It was the third straight title for FDU.The Mount made only seven of 37 first-half shots from the field, did not score for the last 2:30, and trailed at the break, 35-22.In the second half, the home team used a 10-2 burst to slice the margin to eight points with 5:31 to play, but it would get no closer.Heather Wable and Vanessa Blair each had 14 points to lead the Mount, and were named to the all-tournament team.

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Desi Wilson and Clive Anderson combined for 31 of Fairleigh Dickinson's 37 first-half points, and Wilson finished with 32 and 13 rebounds to lead the Knights to an 82-69 victory over Mount St. Mary's in a Northeast Conference game last night.Wilson, last year's NEC Player of the Year and a front-runner for the award again this season, scored six unanswered points to give FDU (18-7, 11-3) a 16-10 lead with 11 minutes, 47 seconds to play in the half. The Knights increased their advantage to as many as 11 before winding up with a 37-28 edge at halftime.
