Mary Esther R. "Essie" Feldmann, a retired registered nurse and pioneering Rodgers Forge resident, died Sunday of complications from dementia at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson. Earlier this month, family and friends gathered to celebrate Mrs. Feldmann's 103rd birthday. She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Baltimore. The daughter of a carriage maker and a homemaker, Mary Esther Roche was raised in Mount Washington. After graduating from Mount St. Agnes High School in 1929, she earned her nursing degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1932.

Audiences during the Great Depression had their spirits lifted by "You Can't Take It With You," the wacky 1936 comedy by George S. Kaufmanand Moss Hart. The lively Everyman Theatre production seems likely to have the same uplifting effect for audiences during our lingering Great Recession. Among other things, this play is a great way to lower the unemployment rate in the acting community. The 19 actors in the cast are kept fully employed portraying a zestfully eccentric family, its permanent houseguests and befuddled visitors.

Adele "Essie" Zukerberg, a retired personnel manager and community volunteer, died of pulmonary hypertension Nov. 20 at Gilchrist Hospice Care. She was 85 and lived in Pikesville. Born Adele Zacansky in Baltimore, she grew up on Ruxton Avenue and was a 1941 Western High School graduate. After raising her family, Mrs. Zukerberg became personnel manager at the Hecht Co. department store in Reisterstown Road Plaza. She also administered studies for the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and was the co-owner of a Falls Road shop, the Valley Vogues.

Essie Jacobs Cole, who sold so many apartments she became known as "Condo Cole," died of a heart ailment Saturday at Sinai Hospital. The Pikesville resident was 94. Born Essie Rose Jacobs in Baltimore, she attended the Robert E. Lee School before graduating from Western High School in 1931. In 1969, after raising a family, she joined real estate broker Fiola Blum. "Her career blossomed," said her granddaughter, Nina Gurvitch of Potomac. "She was a member of the Real Estate Million-Dollar Club in her first year."

Prosecutors will recommend a sentence of eight months in a halfway house for a Baltimore woman who pleaded guilty in the stabbing death of her abusive husband.Essie F. Logan, 38, pleaded guilty yesterday to the voluntary manslaughter of her 39-year-old husband, Clarence Logan, on Sept. 15.When Baltimore Circuit Judge Ellen M. Heller sentences Logan in March, prosecutors will recommend a suspended five-year sentence -- with eight months to be served in a halfway house -- and two years' probation.
