Seven starts in 16 games, that's all Jeffrey Hammonds got. He couldn't prove himself to his new manager in such limited playing time. And now he must prove himself at Double-A Bowie, where his professional career began.Seven starts. Nineteen at-bats. No wonder Hammonds was crushed by last night's demotion. He did not make himself available to reporters. But assistant general manager Frank Robinson confirmed that he took the news hard. This is rapidly turning into a soap opera -- three weeks ago, Hammonds was the Orioles' Opening Day right fielder.
